I remember my grandfather having one of those scythes - my dad chucklingly remembers the old man's frustration as five-year-old me ran in circles around him while he was trying to cut the grass.
Our daughter has spent more hours playing with this basic "no frills" toy then she has the more expensive "popular" toys. It seems the more basic the toy the more fun our kids have with it.

My father, Allen H. Searls, is the guy with the dark hair and a serious expression, looking sidelong at the camera, in the middle of the second row from the back. This was at basic training in 1944. Pop re-enslisted (he had served earlier in the Coastal Artillery) to fight in WWII when he was about to turn 36, and was likely the oldest in this collection of dudes.
A friend gave me this piece of paper and I decided to try to make paper beads from it. I made beads that were 3/4 inches long and wound up getting 30 beads per piece of paper!

O evento contou com a participação do coordenador Nacional do Programa Mais Médicos do Ministério da Saúde, Felipe Proenço Oliveira, do coordenador do TelessaúdeRS, o médico de família Erno Herzeim, e o especialista em educação permanente, Ricardo Ceccim. Nos debates, a mesa 4, sobre o “Programa Mais Médicos e outras estratégias de Gestão do Trabalho para Atenção Básica”. As 11h, foi a vez da mesa 5 discutir sobre “Processos Pedagógicos na Atenção Básica: Educação Permanente, Educação Popular e Telessaúde”. Às 14h, na volta do intervalo, houve a discussão e aprovação do Pacto pela Atenção Básica no RS.
