Much of my exploration of photography for the last year has been driven by weekly challenges for groups to follow a theme. The weekly challenge for the flickr group Macro Mondays for this week was to show something that "It's so Bokeh, can you even tell what it is?"
I experimented with controlling bokeh by using transparent objects prior to this challenge and this image shows how I used the glass base of a goblet to meet the theme. I tried to bisect the glass by showing the refracted frame of the window through the axis of the glass, calling attention to its roundness and transparency.
Snapped with a Pentax K10D camera using the smc P-A 135mm F2.8 lens with a 31 mm extension tube. PP with UFRaw to set white balance, apply curves and saturation, and resize to the JPG.

Soldiers from the 181st Brigade Support Battalion, Washington Army National Guard, and contractors at Contingency Operating Base Q-West, Iraq, fabricated a U-shaped inlet pipe to stop debris from getting into the cistern at the Al-Qayarrah pump house at the Tigris River. The redesign was required because of the large amount of sand, gravel and debris being picked up off the river bottom and delivered to the cistern, which was then sucked into the delivery pumps. On average the base receives 16.7 million gallons a month of water from the pumphouse.

Two 80" long hollow core doors are centered on top of two large 42" wide base cabinets at each end of the doors. "L" brackets (4 total - 2 on each table end) are screwed into the base cabinets.
You could just screw in the "L" brackets into the door bottoms if you like but I wanted to make a system that would allow me remove the doors and flip them without having old screw holes in them - That is why I used carriage bolts and wing nuts. The single hole drilled through the doors can be used again if I ever have to flip the doors over.
The carriage bolt tops on top of the table top do not bother me or get in my way.

Dover Air Force Base, Del. (Sept 20, 2011) – Working as Mortuary Affairs Specialist has never been easy. It’s a job that needs to be done with the highest level of dignity, honor and respect.
It is a job where all senses get sharpen, where everything stop for a moment and all kinds of thoughts go through your mind: your childhood memories, your old friends, even your dreams. That is when you realize that it could be you… No other experience in life can get you closer to life than death itself.
Then you start thinking of that fallen soldier, about his family, his friends and all of a sudden you realize that this is it, they will no longer have him physically and that is really when you have to do your best to immortalize his presence through his belongings.
That is what the soldiers for the 246th and the 311th Quartermaster companies (QM CO) have been doing for years. Their members, out of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, do the best possible job to bring to the fallen Soldier’s families their last memory and they made it last forever.
The Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations (AFMAO) at the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs and the Joint Personal Effects Depot (JPED) are the two facilities that work directly and deal with the fallen soldiers remains and personal effects on Dover AFB.
The AFMAO mission is to fulfill the nation's sacred commitment of ensuring dignity, honor and respect to the fallen and care, service and support to their families. A solemn dignified transfer of remains is conducted upon arrival at Dover AFB, from the aircraft to a transfer vehicle to honor those who have given their lives in the service of the country. The vehicle then moves the fallen to the Port Mortuary at the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs. Once positively identified, the fallen service members are prepared for transport to their final destination as determined by the family.
“This is a nice job, but it is a tough job also, mentally tough… you have to deal with dead bodies…the person in the body bag could be your friend, could be your brother, your cousin, or it could be one of your family [members], said Staff Sgt. Franklyn Seda, a member of the 311th QM CO with 22 years of service, who has been working here for the last three months.
Staff Sgt. Seda is part of the uniform team, one of the four teams integrated by 1st MSC Soldiers. This group of soldiers is in charge of putting together the last uniform, including ribbons, medals, badges, etc., that the fallen soldier will wear until his last stop. They make sure everything is wear according to military standards.
The other teams on this facility are family, case manager and driver teams, which are the ones responsible for coordination, the support, the transportation and movement of the family members of the fallen soldier.
On the other hand, Staff Sgt. Jeysha Alarcón, a 10 years veteran expressed: “I love what I’m doing…I think I make a difference… you are doing something for someone that gave his life for this Country”.
SSG Alarcón works with the case manager’s team. “We put everything to send these soldiers back to their families” she pointed out, meaning that they do their very best on this job.
Joint Personal Effects Depot (JPED), one of the facilities that our soldiers support, has the mission of receive, safeguard, inventory, store, process and determine final disposition of Personal Effects (PE) of deceased, injured or missing DoD personnel in support of current Overseas Contingency Operations.
“We take so much care of their personal effects, we have great people in here, including civilians… they make sure that everything get the most detail, the most care possible, so when the families opens that foot locker they see everything is folded, everything is nice, everything got taking care of, so they don’t think that the military is not taking care of soldiers even after they are dead”, said Capt. Efrain Irizarry, a member of the 246th QM CO who works as a Summary Court Martial Officer for the JPED.
Both, Col. Tom Joyce, AFMAO Commander and Lt. Col. Kelly Kyburz, JPED Commander, expressed their satisfaction of having the 1st MSC Soldiers working on their respective facilities. Lt. Col. Kyburz also informed her intent to keep employing 1st MSC soldiers and added that they are in need of more troops like the ones from the 246th and the 311th QM CO.
Kuwait Navy Base (KNB), Kuwait (June 25, 2006)-- Sailors on a rigid hull inflatable boat observe Sonar Technician (Submarines) Senior Chief Sean McClaren, assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Operational Support Unit Ten (EODOSU 10) deployed to KNB, jumping from an SH-60F Seahawk, attached to the "Dragonslayers" of Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron One One (HS-11), during a cast and recovery training exercise with EODOSU 10, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Six (EODMU 6) Detachment 14 deployed with the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group, and the Kuwait Naval Special Unit. The Enterprise Carrier Strike Group is currently deployed as part of a routine rotation of U.S. maritime forces in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, as well as conducting Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in the region. MSO helps set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment as well as complement the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations. MSO deny international terrrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons, or other material.
