Much of my exploration of photography for the last year has been driven by weekly challenges for groups to follow a theme. The weekly challenge for the flickr group Macro Mondays for this week was to show something that "It's so Bokeh, can you even tell what it is?"
I experimented with controlling bokeh by using transparent objects prior to this challenge and this image shows how I used the glass base of a goblet to meet the theme. I tried to bisect the glass by showing the refracted frame of the window through the axis of the glass, calling attention to its roundness and transparency.
Snapped with a Pentax K10D camera using the smc P-A 135mm F2.8 lens with a 31 mm extension tube. PP with UFRaw to set white balance, apply curves and saturation, and resize to the JPG.

Early C18. 2 storeys, attic and basement. Brick on projecting stone base, double stepped. Chamfered stone quoins. Moulded stone cornice with carved brackets, acanthus ornament. Hipped old tile roof swept out over cornice, 2 dormers with heavy moulded cornice heads. 6 windows, with stone architrave surrounds and cills on 1st floor. 5 similar windows on ground floor with additional curved frieze and cornice to each. All with glazing bars intact. Large 8-panel double door, off centre, in stone bolection surround, with curved frieze, moulded cornice and broken pediment on carved stone brackets, acanthus ornament. The door approached by a flight of 3 semi-circular stone steps from small terrace across front of house. 2 wrot iron scroll pattern scrapers. 4 basement windows in narrow areas. Area rails plain wrot iron, diagonal and rectangular pattern, returned each side of door with bold strap scroll guards. The sides of house have a deep coved cornice. Interior has fine plasterwork and panelling. Original staircase. Adjoining to right hand with yard in front: a stable block - late C18. Brick with dentilled eaves and old tile roof. Pair of 3 central-arched stable doors (one blocked) and central-arched door with radiating fanlight. 2 circular and central oval loft windows over... Two 80" long hollow core doors are centered on top of two large 42" wide base cabinets at each end of the doors. "L" brackets (4 total - 2 on each table end) are screwed into the base cabinets.
You could just screw in the "L" brackets into the door bottoms if you like but I wanted to make a system that would allow me remove the doors and flip them without having old screw holes in them - That is why I used carriage bolts and wing nuts. The single hole drilled through the doors can be used again if I ever have to flip the doors over.
The carriage bolt tops on top of the table top do not bother me or get in my way.

The oldest plaque at the base of the Turkish Pine (Pinus
halepensis) growing in Oatley Park, Sydney Australia. Although it is undated, it refers to "the Great War" (World War I) in a way that implies it was unveiled before the onset of World War II.
The original "Lone Pine" was a single tree on the battlefield at Gallipoli during the ANZAC campaign in 1915. All other Turkish Pines had been felled in order to conceal Turkish trenches.
The Australian War Memorial records two soldiers that retrieved pine cones from branches on the battlefield. New trees were later grown in Australia from these pine cones.
However, the tree seen here at Oatley Park is one of only 2 grown from a pine cone taken from the Lone Pine tree itself - that is, the one which stood in the middle of the battlefield.
Owen John Davies collected pine cones from Lone Pine and planted these in Australia in 1920.
The second descendant of the Lone Pine was planted in Horsham Golf Club in Victoria.
Australia's deadliest bushfires swept through Victoria in 2008 and the Horsham Golf Club was burnt to the ground.
Two months later the good news came through that that second descendant of the Lone Pine had in fact survived the fire.
According to one club member "all the trees in [the fire's] path were decimated, but for some reason the fire missed the cluster of trees where this [Lone Pine descendant] is and moved to the carpark and destroyed that area.
"It is almost unbelievable to think the original Lone Pine survived the horrors of Gallipoli and then for this tree that grew from its seed to escape the intense fire that went through, well, it's amazing"
Indeed!
Amazing too, to think this important link in Australia's military history sits quietly at the gates of Oatley Park where hundreds of visitors pass by each week - many oblivious to its significance.

Base of a funerary kouros (naked youth), made of Pentelic marble. It was found in Kerameikos, built into the Themistokleian wall. The statue would have stood on the grave of an athlete. The three sides of the base are decorated in relief. The front side depicts a scene from the palaestra. Two wrestlers are shown in action; on the left an athlete is ready to jump, on the right another is preparing the pit. The left side of the base represents six athletes involved in various athletic games. On the right side, two seated youths pair a dog and a cat in a fight. National Archaeological Museum of Athens
