The base lodges at Bretton Woods looked a little out of place with no snow on the ground, but it still brought back plenty of memories for me. I did a large chunk of my skiing here growing up, and even though there has been lots of expansion, the basic character of the place seems largely intact.
Perhaps surprisingly, it did not seem to be a problem to park among the final approach lights at Ramstein Air Base after a Sunday afternoon drive!
MAJORAS' MASK (Project: Terrible Fate)
First step after primer, the base coat. In this case I used a wood color for the front of the mask because when I paint with the other colors there will be areas where those colors will be faded revealing the base coat simulating wood. As for the back of the mask I used a metallic spray simulating metal. It looks too shiny and clean but now comes the fun part! weathering, with this I will make sure everything looks old, rusty and beaten.

Exchanges in Italy date back to just after World War II when hundreds opened throughout Europe to serve a growing number of GIs moving to the continent. Many of the exchanges served installations actively engaged in the Cold War with the Soviet Union.
The air station was a U.S. Air Force facility near Brindisi. In 1960, the installation came under the wing of Italy's Aviano AB. San Vito became its own installation when taken over the the U.S. Air Force Security Service.
In 2003, the installation was turned over to the Italian Army.

United 1409 to Newark Liberty International backtracks on Runway 25 for a Runway 07 departure from V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua, with my brother onboard! In the back are Ballsitic Missile tracking dishes and telemetry equipment from the 45th Launch Support Squadron / 45th Operations Group, Det. 1 Patrick AFB / Antigua AFS, charged with downrange launch tracking from Cape Canaveral. This was part of a base given to the US in the WWII "Destroyers for Bases" lend-lease deal with the UK; the US has a small base on the opposite side of the Runway. [Boeing 737-824 N76515]
U.S. Air Force basic military graduation and coining ceremony is held Dec. 3, 2020, for the 321st Training Squadron at the Pfingston Reception Center on Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. Due to current world events, the graduation ceremonies will be closed to the public until further notice for safety and security of the newly accessioned Airmen and their family members due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

I think it is lost on most Americans that the first time a B-52 was used in actually live combat was in Vietnam and it was the only time a B-52 was lost to enemy fire.
Fifteen B-52s were lost during the 1972 Linebacker II Christmas bombings and three of those B-52s originated from the 97th Bombardment Wing assigned to Blytheville Air Force Base; B 52G 58-0201 "Charcoal 1" went down on the 18th, B 52G 58-0198 "Olive 1" and B 52G 58-0169 "Tan 3" were shot down on the 21st. Airmen from the 97th Bombardment Wing lost their lives and their photos appear on the lonely memorial at their abandoned base in Blytheville; Lt Col Keith R Heggen was in "Olive1", (now buried at Arlington Nat'l Cemetery) Lt Col Donald L Rissi, 1st LT Robert J Thomas and Msgt Walter L Ferguson were in "Charcoal 1" Major Bobby A Kirby, Capt Randall J Craddock, Capt George B Lockhart, Capt Ronald D Perry and 1st Lt Charles E Darr were in "Tan 3". These three 97th BW aircraft were stationed and flown out of Anderson AFB, Guam, as part of the 72nd Strategic Wing (Provisional).
This is me doing something that I thought that I would never do - jumping from a 40 foot rock.
Don't get me wrong ... I have no problems whatsoever jumping into the water ... it's the height I had a problem with! I really, really don't like heights so I have no idea what prompted me to climb up there in the first place (the only person to actually do so).
When I got up there the height seemed more like 100 feet than the mere 40 feet it actually was so it took me a long, long time to screw up the courage to jump. The decision wasn't helped by the instructor warning me to "jump far out so I don't hit the rocky outcrop on the way down"!!! I think that the fact my son was watching helped me finally take the plunge rather than climb back down.
Once I had gotten over the shock of receiving a cold sea-water enema I had a fantastic feeling of achievement .... but I don't think that I'll be doing it again in a hurry :)

Painting and markings:
Well, this was a bit experimental. I wanted to add another unique Swedish Air Force aircraft to my growing collection, and a simple olive green/blue grey livery would certainly have been the more conservative option. But there were exceptions in the P7's time frame, had the aircraft entered service around 1939. One of these was the J 9 fighter, how the Severski P-35A was called in Swedish service. These American machines were delivered in NMF, but locally received a rather special camouflage: a zinc chromate yellow overall base coat with olive green streaks and mottles applied on top, so that the primer would still show through - reminding a bit of Italian aircraft camouflage (e. g. the Fiat CR.42, which was flown in Sweden, too, and basically retained its original Italian paint scheme). The undersides were standard blue grey.
To make things even more exciting I decided to add temporary winter camouflage on top of the basic scheme - inspired by a picture of J 9s in wintertime and the fact that there was an official pattern catalogue for tactical whitewash application. The creative patterns would leave the original camouflage partly visible and create dark shapes on the white surroundings, including shapes that look like small rivers or paths, and even bushes and leafless trees were part of the styles!
At first, the kit received a basis of uniform Humbrol 225 (Mid Stone), which is very yellow-ish and darker than true inc chromate yellow (Humbrol 81). The latter was added for some post-shading, though.
Once dry, I created the blurred, green pattern through thinned acrylic paints. A first layer was done with a mix of Revell 16 and 65 (Sand and Bronze Green, respectively), and on top of that - once dry - another layer with pure 65.
Then the decals were applied, puzzled together from various sources. Around these, the whitewash winter camouflage was added - again with acrylic paint, but this time with a more viscous artist paint: titanium white, with a bit of grey and beige added, and applied with a relatively small brush for visible streaks and a hand-made, provisional impression.
After some soot stains (with Tamiya's Smoke) and a few pencil-painted panel lines, the kit received a final coat of matt acrylic varnish.

My Blacktron Base, built March 2010 - My biggest moc since i came out from my dark ages - It started as a small outpost, but grew and grew, so that i had to stop the build because i run out of parts - If i ever manage to visit a convention i have to transfer it on a standart baseplate - I also tried to build some playable features and came out with a foldable entrance stairway, a Tower with a roof that can be opened and a foldable Ladder, the big canopie can be removed and there are several balconies to mount the weapons -
