Because I don't live anywhere near a lovely place like Bar Harbor, I was fascinated by all the boats and ships docked there.
I spent alot of time in and around Bar Harbor during my 2013 trip to Maine. I'd never been to Maine before, much less to this part of Maine, so I didn't know where to stay at the time. I ended up staying my week in Maine in a cute little rental house in Bass Harbor, but I found myself driving into Bar Harbor every morning to get sunrise images there (Bass Harbor is pretty teeny). If I ever visit Maine again in the fall, I'll definitely stay in Bar Harbor instead.

Two of these juvenile Bar-tailed Godwits were among Marbled Godwits at Bill's Spit, Ocean Shores, Grays Harbor County, Washington. They were first reported by Marv Breece about a week before, and refound by Garrett MacDonald, Roger Woodruff, and myself.
Bar-headed Goose (Anser indicus) is a goose which breeds in Central Asia in colonies of thousands near mountain lakes. Its one of the world's highest flying birds, having been seen at up to 10,175 m (33,382 feet).
The Bar-headed Goose migrates over the Himalayas to spend the winter in parts of India and can fly the 1000-mile migration route in just one day as it is able to fly in the jet stream.
It is possible the species is becoming gradually more established in the UK. The bird is sociable and causes no problems for other birds

One afternoon during our trip Mike, Melina, Nathaniel, Jerry and I stumbled onto a neat BBQ place in Louisiana. Black Smoke was its name. The food was scrumptious, especially the pork chop sandwiches!

Quiet small town bar.
Flaxville is a tiny farming town near Canada, made up of around 70 people. Judging by all of the elevators I would say that at least at one time, the transport of grain was very much alive and well. Flaxville has a small, quiet main street with the typical assortment of run down (but very cool) historic buildings.
"At one time, flax was the only crop grown in the area, so the name came easily. The first settlement was located 2.5 miles southwest of the present site and went by the name of Boyer. The town was moved to its present site when the Great Northern Railroad came through. The first post office was established in 1914 with Martha Bledsoe as postmaster." -travelmt.com

Homemade Granola Bars
4 cups Rice Krispies
4 cups oats
16 oz. large marshmallows (about 450g for us Canadians)
1 cube butter (1/2 cup)
1 T. peanut butter (optional)
1 cup miniature M & Ms (found with the chocolate chips) or 1 cup miniature chocolate chips
Combine cereal, oats, chocolate and/or M & Ms in a large bowl. In a microwave-safe dish (I use a large glass bowl), microwave marshmellows, butter and peanut butter. Cook one minute; stir; cook one more minute; stir. Pour over cereal mixture, stir, then press into 9 x 13 buttered pan. Cut into bars and enjoy!
Recipe Notes: Well I skipped the peanut butter because it's just not allowed at school. I really loved this recipe for how quick and easy it was to put together. I lined my 9X13 pan with waxed paper so went it was set I could lift the whole thing out. That made cutting them into bars a lot easier. I divided the pan into thirds along the long side and cut them into bars that were similar in size and shape to a store bought granola bar. I got about 36 bars and it only cost me a fraction what it would have it if I'd purchased 36 bars at the store. I have to admit I wasn't sure Abby was going to like them, but.....
