Bar Harbor was first settled in 1763 on Mount Desert Island along the central coast of Maine. For over 100 years it has been a popular tourist destination, first by wealthy Gilded Age millionaires, and more recently by visitors to adjacent Acadia National Park.

In the last quarter of the 20th century a number of East Lothian's hostelries, including some traditional country inns, became popular for their meals as much as for their drinks. The Waterside Bistro included a traditional silver service restaurant in the upper floor of the building.
This is a colour photograph of the interior of a bar. A uniformed barman and four waitresses have been posed behind the bar. The walls are clad with shelves and racks, all of which are full of bottles.
This photograph was taken by East Lothian District Council to promote facilities and businesses in their district. The Waterside was one of several restaurants that was able to build up a clientele from outwith the immediate area. They provided transport for parties who might otherwise have travelled in their own cars.

En la Polonia de la época comunista, un bar mleczny ("bar lácteo", literalmente) era una especie de cantina barata, subvencionada por el estado. Hoy en día subsisten algunos y, aunque ya no son tan baratos como antes, siguen siendo la opción más económica para comer. Acude a ellos una clientela de lo más variado. En éste (el mleczny de la calle Grodzka de Cracovia) me llamó la atención nuestra vecina de mesa. En general, durante los últimos safaris fotográficos que he llevado a cabo por Cracovia y Varsovia lo que más me ha llamado la atención es la soledad de la gente mayor, la necesidad de atención que tienen y cómo agradecen que se les haga caso. Con esta señora no llegamos a hablar, pero con otras personas sí. En cuanto pueda subo más imágenes de estos días.

I shot this photo on February 18, 2011, the day it reached 68° F (20° C) in NYC. That was a record for that day. You can see a man tending an outdoor grill by the side of the building.
Today, the weather is back to normal. It's sunny, but cold.

Today was Worldwide Photo Walk day. Pete Carr organised the Liverpool walk.
Such a cool afternoon. The sight of 30 or so 'togs walking around town got a really good reaction from people - wanting to know what we were doing, but in a good natured, friendly way.
I took a few pics of a couple of lads outside the Baa Bar on Slater Street. Then a few more wanted photos and after about 10 minutes it seemed like the whole bar was outside on the street posing for this shot. Just a great feeling. And a great day.
Patatas bravas.
Hacía tiempo que no me acercaba por el Bar Tomás para disfrutar de las patatas bravas, su especialidad. Nunca me han fallado y esta vez han conseguido volverme a sorprender, incluso superando cualquier experiencia anterior. Recién fritas, tiernas y con el exterior delicadamente crujiente en un punto perfecto de cocción y sabor. Suave “all i oli” y salsa roja moderadamente picante forman el complemento perfecto para considerar éste uno de los platillos más afortunados, viciosos y económicos (1,95€) del planeta. Da igual que el local sea sencillo y que el resto de la oferta (incluida la cerveza) no destaque demasiado, las bravas siguen siendo un motivo inexcusable de peregrinación. Sin ninguna duda, las mejores, y para quien no las conozca advierto que son todavía mucho más jugosas y apetitosas de lo que pueda sugerir la fotografía de cabecera. Desde aquí mi particular y merecido homenaje a un clásico.

Where's the action?
The Action Bar might be a former name for what's now Ralph's Diner. That's the building this sign is on, and I don't think there's any place called the Action Bar now.
