this bangle is a portal; a subtle tear in time and space, an aperture of imagination....
let your body be the conduit! wear it and you can feel its weight, jangling on your wrist, resting on the top of your hand. touch the inside of the portal and you will discover a secret message, a poetical talisman for you and you alone! travel to the tips of your cortex, envision the ends of the earth --
be a beam of light.
this portal bangle is really something special: made of thick, forged sterling silver, it has some serious heft! along it's outer rim, there are five tube-set, faceted sapphires: two yellow, one pink, one blue-black and one deep green; as well as one bezel-set cabochon of black sapphire! these stones are scattered amongst discs, dots and rings of sterling silver and 14 karat gold.
the inside of the bangle is inscribed with part of a walking song sung by hobbits (curtesy -of course- of j.r.r. tolkien): "Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate".
Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though I oft have passed them by,
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.

I made this copper bangle yesterday and used a lovely beadset that I purchased from twosisters4 on etsy. This is my first copper bangle, and I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. I wanted to try copper before silver, but I will feel confident making one out of silver...just will have to order some first-lol! :)
Sad that BHS is closing in difficult circumstances, after nearly 90 years in business, and after having been one of my go-to shops for most of my adult life.
The Torquay branch must have closed its doors for the last time while I was in Austria; however, I was in Exeter one day last week and found their shop still open, and selling off literally everything, including office furniture, crockery from the in-store cafe and even dummies/mannequins, both full bodies and some amusing dummy bottoms that must have been used to model underwear. As for the clothes, all their own brand clothing and accessories had 70% off, and other brands at least 30%.
Which is how I came by this bangle (the thicker one), approximately 1.5 weeks after wishing out loud that I could find a wider black and white one to add to my collection. Be careful what you wish for: I'll miss the bras and swimwear in particular, and I'm grateful that my sons got through school before they stopped selling their affordable schoolwear. I did make a point of wishing the assistant who served me good luck for the future!

This was a custom piece for an Etsy customer. I had never made a bangle like my rings before-- I think it turned out really nice.
