Like many, I'm trying my hand at sourdough baking during COVID-19. This first loaf turned out pretty yummy, but not super sour. The second loaf from this batch is proofing in the fridge overnight, so hopefully will be a bit more tangy.
Thankfully my kitchen is just about big enough for the bake sale to be suddenly moved inside in case of bad weather!!
Baked Contact. The lower part of this outcrop is a nonwelded ash-flow tuff, a unit of the Rhyolite of Sugarloaf Canyon formed during the late Miocene or early Pliocene. The upper part of the outcrop, above the unconformity, is a basaltic andesite flow erupted during the Pleistocene. When the hot lava flowed over the tuff, it oxidized iron-bearing minerals creating the reddish baked zone extending about 8 inches below the contact. Along U.S. 6 east of Montgomery Pass, Mineral Co., Nevada.
Baked actually on the fourth 24-hour period, after three days of rising. The simplest ingredients: flour, water, salt.
Taste: very dark, rich, sour, a bit heavy. Awesome with butter or cheese. An ancient taste, from far older baking times.
Today is baking day in preparation for the holiday. I made cinnamon rolls and in the process of some cookies, which will have to wait for final viewing until after supper.
What am I going to do with 6 pans of cinnamon rolls? And, by the way, that's only half the batch. I still have more dough in the fridge.
Jacques-y-poo is sick; he's been sleeping all day. Poor little guy.
Instead of fried, for my Dad : )These are made with canned apples from the summer past, but any fruit you like will work.A good way to use any going soft. They freeze well too.Can even fill them with cooked meat and potatoes, pizza or taco style,left-overs,etc.Cook sliced/chopped fruit (til soft),with a lit' butter cinnamon, gran.sugar & brown sugar to taste, dash of salt, let cool, then add a spoonful onto one side of dough(for quick dough, roll out canned biscuits),dampen edge and fold over, seal edge with a fork, brush top with butter and bake til golden.

I just love this Mexican cabinet...and the hanging system from Ikea.
This home belongs to Cosette and Chadon...some dear friends of ours from Des Moines. Cosette is a midwife and her practice is connected next door through this hallway. Chadon is an artist/green builder. Their home is one of my favorites...I love their style and their passion for life.
I had to make my own baked tofu for a soup I made last night, because our store doesn't sell it. It was soooo tasty!
OK, my recipe:
One package of firm (or "hard", my package said "hard") tofu
Some soy sauce
Cut tofu into more or less finger sized slices.
Place on paper towels, with more paper towels on top and weight to drain (or however you like to drain your tofu...)
Forget that you don't have soy sauce, and so leave the tofu in the fridge overnight.
Buy soy sauce.
Marinate tofu in soy sauce for about the length of an average CD.
Place in shallow baking pan and bake at 375ish for about 45 minutes, turning once.
Remove from oven and taste the tastiness. Also, take photos as needed.
Mmm!
If I were so motivated, I might even add stuff to the soy sauce for the tofu to soak up while it marinates, like garlic...or...other stuff. But if you have just moved, like I have, and can't find anything other than soy sauce (and maybe you even had to make a special trip to the store to get that) then plain ol' soy sauce will be just fine. Tasty!
Caramelised chunks of baked apple in a cinnamon-apple semifreddo. Lovingly drizzled with caramel apple glaze. Recipe on my blog.
This shot is taken from Shatabadi Express, in a Nothern State of India, Harayana. This is a brick making factory. If you see closely you see there are lines of bricks ready to be baked.

Bakal Boys is the story of young metal diver Utoy, who suddenly loses a friend in the middle of a scavenging activity in the open and treacherous Manila Bay. The Film documents the lives of Tondo boys scavenging iron and metal scraps in Baseco compound. Accidental death and disappearances are but natural occurrences that the fatalistic villagers learned to live with. It is in this condition that the film takes a glimpse and depicts their perilous routine and struggles of their lives.
early morning in Jammu, we found this baker in the midst of baking flakey pastry buns that melt in your mouth. A French croissant is nearly as good as this traditional bread of Jammu and Kashmir.
I'm a Brownie Leader; something a lot of people who know me find somewhat worrying. For me being a Brownie Leader involves giving up at least one weekend a year to go on Pack Holiday at Catterburn (just outside Glasgow) and this year was no exception.
This year we had a High School Musical themed weekend. As if that wasn't bad enough it rained the entire weekend and the I was landed with the job of First Aider. Despite all this a lot of fun was had.
We like to teach the girls how to make a hell of a lot of mess and then call it "baking".
