The old unwritten rule of classical western films where good guys wear white hats; bad guys wear black hats. There are a bunch of reasons for this. Say if there are 20 people in street fighting, 5 good guys, and the rest dirty rotten scoundrels, dressing them in dark and bright colours would help the audience know whether the good guys are winning. On top of this, film studios worked in a different way back then, regurgitating as many props and costumes to keep the costs down, those films were made almost from a template. So that’s the short answer. but long one’s better. It’s more interesting to understand why directors and costume designers tuned into this concept of ‘black is bad’ and how those this effect modern films?
Semiotics – the visual language of our cultures. We see a leaf and think of a tree, the environment, the countryside; we see a red carpet and think of films, premiers, class, celebrities. We learn to perceive these visual signs before we even learn to speak, making our brains incredibly efficient in connecting objects, signs and colours to an array of meanings. Some of these visuals are entirely dependent on your immediate culture (for example, people in south Africa, or the States will not look at a pasty and think of Cornwall, Greggs, and builders) while other visuals have a far more widespread understanding, such as the colour black.

There is a new SiFi sim in town!
My old friend Kitten Caboose from those cool peeps over at The Grove Art Center has created this unique futuristic environment, really well laid out with some superb details.
I was lucky enough get to do a shoot in the Kidd way going BIG, last week. While my interpretation strays from the builders intended storyline a tad, I had a blast making my frames!

The story of Three Finger Pines:
Once a thriving, green world, the planet Seva was rich with towering flora. But centuries of unchecked consumerism, pollution, and climate collapse shattered its natural balance. The soil turned sterile; the skies choked with toxins.
The Seravarian race emerged from this collapse, desperate to save what remained of their dying world. They launched a small fleet of ships into the galaxy, searching for planets with atmospheres that echoed their lost home. One such vessel crash-landed on Earth—deep within an isolated region of Canada’s boreal forest known as Three Finger Pines.
Remote and largely untouched, Three Finger Pines is a land of towering pines, sprawling wetlands, and near-complete isolation. To the Seravarians, it was a living memory of what Seva once was.
They have not come to resettle Earth, but to learn from its biosystem. By studying the region’s genetic blueprints—its plants, spores, and soil—they hope to unlock the secrets needed to reawaken Seva’s long-lost ecosystem.

I swear, the new year sneaks up faster and faster every year.
I thought a recap kind of thing might be fun. Maybe I’m totally wrong, but hopefully someone will enjoy it. :P
This year was a lot of fun on Flickr. There were a some new people who joined and livened things up, and some of the older members came back from retirement.
I also got to know some of my friends here better, especially FANTXTIK, LC, Spider-Pip, totallyawesome_me, and Enøshima. FANTXTIK and I also teamed up for an April Fools Day prank that I still laugh about to this day.
As for me, I feel I improved a lot in both minifigure customizing and in traditional art.

Young Living Essential Oils Farm, Mona, Utah, USA. 2018 Fall Festival and Draft Horse Show. Competition for two, four, six and the unusual eight horse hitch classic series using Clydesdale/Shire, Belgian and Percheron breeds. This is a four day event that includes rodeo, jousting, concerts, dancing Friesians, and a western shootout.
The second badguys of BIONICLE. Mindless robots created for one purpose: To destroy. Nothing will stop them, nothing can. They are the perfect machines of war.

A group of Waffen-SS soldiers are marching somewhere in Europe during the Second World War. 1945 to be exact.
I got a squad of them during TMC week of 2017, along with three Japanese pilots, couldn't get the dark tan one, wich was a pity. These SS soldiers will appear in a future stop-motion of mine, along with those Japanese soldiers. The title is refering to an SS marching song, also this shot was based on the movie ''Fury'' where a bunch of Waffen-SS soldiers were marching in the countryside while singing this song (Wich is pretty amazing as they sung with their mouths closed)

My old friend Kitten Caboose from those cool peeps over at The Grove Art Center has created this unique futuristic environment, really well laid out with some superb details.
I was lucky enough get to do a shoot in the Kidd way going BIG, last week. While my interpretation strays from the builders intended storyline a tad, I had a blast making my frames!

Not to sound crude or anything but when I saw this in-world, it made my dick hard in its splendid magnificence! I really do have a symmetry fetish.
I have seen many a build in my days in SL, but at the very least the castle portion, has really set a new bar for the sim developers & creators here in SL!

The shoot so super easy I used the Sims SE. The frame rate in ultra was superb at 20FPS and near 70FPS in low graphics. I got this with just 2 raw captures!
I did not do too much in post edit other than bump up vibrance a bit to make the gold pop a tad more. I did a couple versions with my post edit bag tricks but in the end I kept pretty pure to the SL raw frame.
I want to thank Nekonuko Nakamor for finding this sim in her "wanderings"!

On to the figure. Doctor Zero is one of my two favorite characters, so it was a no-brainer to make him.
I sculpted his hair, his goggle lenses, and the wire on his gauntlet.
I painted on the zero symbol on his shirt, and his facial hair.
His boots, hood, goggles strap, shoulder bag strap, and gauntlet are e-tape.

I debated going the subtle route. Just letting words of this brilliant, moving song written by Woody Guthrie in 1948, about the tragic plan crash in Southern California, killing 4 Americans and 28 migrant farm workers who were being deported from California back to Mexico.
But I have some thoughts on this topic I would like to express.
When I was 12 to 18yo I worked every summer on a dairy farm in NE Indiana. Honestly I give this much credit for the man I grew into. With that said there is no harder life than working the fields.
Fast forward to adult me, I spent my 40 year working life in the construction industry. I have the privilege to have worked with many hard working, family focused, immigrants from nearly every continent on earth. Some were 1st or 2nd generation Americans some naturalized citizens, some were holders of green cards and I am sure some were undocumented. Personally In my own company everyone filled out the I-9 form that all employers are required to keep.
I have lived my whole life in a state that once was part of Mexico, (other than my summers on the farm) 40% of Californians identify as Hispanic or Latino, representing the largest ethnic group in the state. I am saddened and pretty fucking pissed off by this attack on this vulnerable population by ICE & other federal law enforcement. This overreach where you are picked up merely for the color of your skin or your place of employment is racism in its clearest definition. You have to ask yourself the rhetorical question why you never see the boss being held in account having employed the undocumented?
Why do these federal law enforcement officers choose to cover their faces with mask? Why wont they identify what agency they are affiliated with? When I was kid it was the bad guys who wore the mask.
Before you say "Kidd wants open borders" I in fact do not. I want work permits, I want pathways for the worthy to live here legally without the fear of being rounded up by masked men and sent some black shithole prison in El Salvador without due process.
