This former tuberculosis sanatorium in Belgium was build in the early 1900's, on behalf of the director of a bacteriologic laboratory, and opened in 1903. It's build on a 420m high hill and facing south.
After the sanatorium closed the building was tranformed into a psychiatric hospital and later the building was used as a shelter for refugees untill it closed definitely in 2013, due to the high financial costs.
Nowadays, it's part of a new nursering home annex hospital that was build right next to the sanatorium, but since there isn't any use for the old sanatorium anymore, the city decided to put it on sale.

Edward Orem Shakespeare, MD (M 1869), nationally distinguished pioneer in bacteriology and public health, pictured here as a US Army medical officer, 1899. Early in his career Shakespeare pursued ophthalmology at Philadelphia General Hospital (also known as Blockley). His interests extended to pathology and bacteriology. Blockley appointed Shakespeare as its first "Bacteriologist," while Penn gave him a faculty position in pathology. Shakespeare made his mark studying late-19th-century epidemics in the US and abroad. He explained the 1885 outbreak of typhoid fever in Plymouth, PA, the result of water supply contamination. That same year President Grover Cleveland appointed him to investigate cholera in Europe and India. During the Spanish-American War, Shakespeare worked as a medical officer alongside Drs. Walter Reed and Victor Vaughan in solving the problem of typhoid fever epidemics in US Army camps. (Edward O. Shakespeare)

“As one of the world's leading hotels there is no margin for error and our pool at The Connaught must always be perfect. I must admit that I was very skeptical about operating without any chlorine. Despite knowing so many other places use it, the idea of replacing the chlorine with PoolSan made me nervous. But our bacteriological tests are always perfect and our water quality remains superb. PoolSan is a great product and our pool is better in lots of ways. There is no odour around the pool and we no longer get damage to the metal fittings that we saw with chlorine. The PoolSan dosing system is easy and safer to operate especially when compared with our old system and I am very happy we no longer have the concern of hazardous chemicals in the plant room. We are very proud to be able to tell our guests we have a chlorine-free pool and I've also since recommended PoolSan to other sites.”
