Well, I have to presume before vacuums were created and made available to everyone floors were cleaned by using a brush and small dust pan ... I've gone back to basics 😉

Thanks to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo .... Thanks to you all!

Whilst on a day out a few years ago playing with my Canon 1000D and some street photography I came across this window in a secluded area. An interesting grid lined glass with what appears to be a gunshot hole through it.

"Back to Basic" is part 1 of the project "Goodbye Spring, Hello Summer". This collection was inspired from vintage style in the 70s, 80s. The photos were mainly taken in a retro-style house.

This is the first piece of a new series I'm going to be working on.

insomnia, black and white, me.

reunited at last.

i'm feeling completely uninspired to do this 365 project right now but i know that will pass if/when a new idea presents itself.

in the mean time, i'm trying not to worry about it.

to simply grab the camera and shoot and whatever appears is okay.

i took eleven photos of yours truly tonight. two of them fought for a spot on today's 365, but this one was the victor. just seemed the more genuine of the two.

to me, this photo shows me just as i am in this moment.

rather drained, living a bit in limbo, but very, very present.

and that's enough.

for now.

Convento Sant'Antonio Valtesse, Bergamo, Italia.

A very original brutalist convent and church, full of surprising materials.

Design (1969): Walter Barbero, Giorgio Zenoni and Giuseppe Gambirasio.

Within the Grand Canyon National Park, while flying overhead in the helicopter, I spotted this lonely Homestead. It was miles from any other habitation, and extremely remote. You can see by the dirt road that there are no street lights. I also wondered how they cope with the extreme heat as there is also no shelter from any trees. Only small plants and I guess tumble weed.

Not my usual genre, but it's good to step outside now and again. This is a self-portrait made in the old School way, as a Hand made composite. ie; The camera on a tripod with a timer, the shot printed and a pair of scissors and a scanner. The only uses of Photoshop were the border and the tag. I love Ps and Lightroom, but it’s good to go back to basics sometimes.

A throwback capture of a quick visit the the Chelmsford Graffiti wall. Usually a hangout to some of the best street artists in the area it is a great place to see some real talent...or capture images of it.

“Who could deny that privacy is a jewel?

It has always been the mark of privilege,

the distinguishing feature of a truly urbane culture.

Out of the cave,

the tribal teepee,

the pueblo, the community fortress,

man emerged to build himself a house of his own

with a shelter in it for himself and his diversions.

Every age has seen it so.

The poor might have to huddle together in cities for need's sake,

and the frontiersman cling to his neighbors

for the sake of protection.

But in each civilization, as it advanced,

those who could afford it chose the luxury of a withdrawing-place.”

~ Phyllis McGinley ~

By returning to basics and bonding with our families,

may we realize the critical importance of such a retreat.

Be well, my friends . . . big VIRTUAL hugs to all.

I have carried too much gear for the snowshoe walk in the weekend. I had my backpack (my Nikon D300 and a few lenses) and tripod. This slows me down a lot in the walk. I have to catch up with the group all the time. At the end I did not shoot many pictures due to the lack of time.

The lesson is that simplicity works not only in photographic composition but also in life too.

Most of the time we carry too much gear. 50% of them are not used in the trip.

We carry too much relationships (we call it social networking nowadays such as Facebook or your real life social clubing) and it takes you so much time in maintenance.

We carry too much money (we call it wealth management and that is the money you accumulate and would not be spending until end of your life).

We carry too much technology (you upgrade your phone, your computer, your software and your knowledge so often). We have to note that wisdom needs no update.

There is most beauty when you go back to basics and the simplicity in life.

Have a great and simple day, week and life!

This is an ordinary simplicity shot taken in the snowshoe walk Sunday.
