Dario's car ran out of fuel on the backstretch during the victory lap. It took a while for the safety crew to get him some fuel and restart the car so he could drive to the championship stage. Would've been less than flattering to have to be towed.

This car on the backstretch is driven by Romain Grosjean, an older driver from France who is sometimes a contender in IndyCar but was never anywhere near the front today.

I've got a soft spot for Romain, though, thanks to that Netflix television show about Formula-1 called Drive to Survive. Romain was a driver in Formula-1 for a while up until 2020, and the TV show featured him a lot in their early seasons. And the thing is, he was almost good. He was often right on the cusp, and he made it onto the top-3 podium 10 times in his 9 years on the circuit. But he never managed to break through, and he wound up on an also-ran team just as the unstoppable force of Lewis Hamilton was reaching its peak. His Formula-1 career finally ended in 2020 in a spectacular crash that really should have killed him. The crash broke his car in half and wedged him against a barrier, then caught fire. Seriously, anybody watching that race thought for about 30 seconds that they were watching a man burned alive. But then, somehow, he pulled himself out of the fire after sitting in the middle of it for 28 seconds.

His fireproof suit mostly protected him, and he wound up with significant burns to his hands. But that turned out to be enough, and he walked away from Formula-1 after that. Everybody thought he walked away from racing in general. I think he'd have been happier if he had.

But here he is. He didn't even take a year off before he started running in IndyCar in 2021. And how's he doing? He's, well ... he's almost good. Sometimes, he's right on the cusp. He runs near the front sometimes, but he just can't seem to break through.

My theory is that he's a pretty smooth driver when everything's going well, but if he gets frustrated, his brain stops working. He panics easily and makes stupid and often over-aggressive decisions, and it costs him positions. I don't think he'll ever be anything more than almost good.
