Pretty cool, again, cool-looking backround. The black/white one and other black/white swirly ones could also make a cool backround, or a picture themselves. Like the other ones, found this googling images titled "grunge".

Russian soldiers (backround) clear path in a minefield and just behind them an accessment team composed of both 1st Armored Division as well as 1st Infantry Division (foreground) wait for lane to be cleared, just outside of Ugljevic, Bosnia-Herzegovina (Camp Ugly) in the Russian sector. The mine strike ocurred earlier on the morning of 961101. This happened when a Russian BTR drove over a anti-personal mine, soon after a Russian soldier stepped on one throwing him on to another causing him to loose both a foot and a hand. This all occurred during Operation Joint Endeavor with NATO's Implementation Force.

Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore is in the backround. In the middle of piazza dell'Esquilino, one of the seven hills, an obelisk stands out. Like its twin in Piazza del Quirinale, it decorated the entrance of the Mausoleum of Augustus. In 1587 it was moved here by order of Pope Sixtus V, to guide pilgrims coming from the north toward the important Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the most solemn buildings of Roman Baroque. From the square only the back of the Basilica can be seen.
Taken about 1860-70's.This was a very old, dirty, scratched, spotted, dark, well you get the idea, tintype. About 7/8ths by 1 1/4 inches. I restored it. The original backround was just a sheet or canvas. I deleted it & put the new backround to make the people "stand" out. The only colorazation I did was her buckle & his chain and the backround.
Sparrowing is a silver tabby she-cat with gray eyes and a white underbelly, chest, and paws. She is part of TC. This person requested a white and blue polka dotted backround. It is the first time I have used a color other than black plka dots. I gave this picture a little extra.....spark. I gave it a border and put the cats name above. Plus I messed around with the rightness, contrast, color and stuff like that. I think I like this better than the others. So far my favorite. Hope you like it Sparrow! :D

In the backround is the Tivoli Theatre marquee for MEET THE FOCKERS - which is`not making any money this week - with the blizzard passing thru and shutting down showings...

The Canon EOS Photo5 competition is over for 2009. There were 5 briefs and this is one of my test shots. I spent countless hours designing shots, thinking up ideas and taking advice, so I thought it was a shame not to put these up on the internet for others to view. This is one of the ideas I did not use.

The shots were all taken with a Canon 30D.
I have used the Canon logo on the watermark so I hope Canon don't mind and see this as advertising for next years event in 2010 :)

Splat (Capturing Action)
"This is a messy brief. The task is to capture liquid in motion. The supplied powdered paint is child safe and you can consider it a starter splat. If you run out feel free to adlib with other liquids like milk, mud or paint but NOT water. USE ONLY OPAQUE LIQUIDS!, Your image needs to capture liquid in action and not the aftermath. If it’s still dripping, flying through the air or splashing, it qualifies."
Close up (100s and 1000s)
"This small candy brief is all about getting your lens close to the object. You must feature these tiny hundreds & thousands but you don’t need to use them all, and if you need more you are free to source your own."
Bokeh (Experimental)
"Photography was born from those who loved to experiment. This is a lesser known experiment that has been around since photography first began.You must choose and attach only one of the supplied Bokeh hoods to the front of your lens when you create your image. This brief will require a little more prep work but the effect is well worth the patience."
Portraiture (Glasses)
"This is a portraiture brief where you must feature the supplied black spectacles. Other than that its open to your interpretation. Consider your lighting choices and your choice of subject. The winning image will present the viewer with just as many questions as answers. A portrait is all about capturing a personality and you don't necessarily need to see the whole person (or all of the glasses) to achieve that."
Practically Black (Low light)
"Practically black is an OPEN BRIEF which means that even those who have missed out on this years EOS Photo5 box can still enter. This is the first year a brief like this has existed. The ‘Practically Black’ brief is about shooting in dark situations while still maintaining details in the image. We expect to receive very moody imagery for this brief."
