Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta) sunning themselves with Wood Frogs (Rana sylvatica) calling in the backround- taken in the Great Swamp NWR. I stacked everything I had on the 500mm lens (2X and 1.4X TCs) to make 1400mm. The big problem was trying to reduce camera shake. I was on a boardwalk and even people 50 yards away made it shake. Using the IS on the lens was no good because it causes the framed shot to move around slowly. At 1400mm, this could put half of the above photo out of the frame. It is a shame the IS wanders so much, because it really did steady the shake in the picture - it just wouldn't stay locked on the target.
I was lucky to get a little "action" footage - something slightly faster than drying paint. . .

Nobody likes the leasers... Attempting to make it look good, CEFX 1058 rolls through La Crosse with the depot lurking in the backround.
