we've made these drawstring backpacks with my brother to bring them with us to vietnam))) nice decision when you want to bring with you small towel, camera and wallet
The "Women Backpacking Together" Meetup met at the Caribou Lake Trailhead in the Caribou Wilderness in the middle of the night... around midnight. Lorrie and I were there around 7:30pm so after we put up our tent and built a fire, we warded off the bears by making a lot of noise. Four plus hours! We were up around 9am and out on the trail around 11am. Got to our camp at North Divide Lake around 3:30pm and set in for a cold night. Snow all around but we found a nice meadow to camp in.

This is my project 365 photo for August 31, the day before my European trip. I got this backpack over a decade ago, when Eddie Bauer had a "lifetime warranty" on backpacks. I think they rescinded that warranty later (not sure how they can do that), but the backpack's been serving me well all these years. Impressive!
At least, that was what I was thinking when I took this picture before my trip! While I was in Rome, the main zipper gave way! Luckily, my dad just happened to have a safety pin on him, and we repaired it with that. I'm gonna finally start looking for a new backpack. Sad. I guess I jinxed it. :P

You’ll definitely need a humongous canvas backpack, in which you can store supplies, video tapes, pets, and firewood.
This Portage Pack is a rather large 27 x 25 inches, and made with sturdy green canvas.
It’s vintage and has a bit of darkening on the top and some creasing on the leather straps. Portage Pack was a Minneapolis-based company that doesn’t seem to exist anymore.

The Victoria and Albert Museum has an incredible backpack program for kids. Anna did four of them, I think; we had to return a second day! The Architecture backpack was the hands-down favorite. Here Anna sports the “Fancy Furnishings” backpack.

Today I finally narrowed down one of my hiking trips. I think I've decided to break up the Appalachian trail into 40-100 mile sections and my goal will be to hike one or two different section every year. This year will probably be the first portion of the Virgina section. This will take me to the highest point in Virginia and to Grayson Highlands State Park, home of some wild ponies! (no not horses, ponies!). In all, hiking every section will probably take 15-30 years but its good to have goals right?
Well, anyway, long story short, this got me excited about backpacking so I cleaned up and organized all my supplies and made a list of things I'll need to buy.
Since I spent the whole night doing this I had nothing better to photograph. Also, I think I'll want to see this old gear again someday so I needed to get some photos of it.
Now I'm in the mood to practice my backpacking culinary skills. I'm sure you'll see pictures of that in the near future.
