1. The seemingly innocent looking ridgeline leading to the southwest basin turned out to be anything but, all because I was too lazy to drop down into the lower basin.

2. Completely out of water and kept fingers (and paws) crossed for some residual snow in the upper basin.

3. The entire area smelled like barbecue, not sure if it had to do with those poor animals that lost their lives in the fire

heading into some back country [minus food and water]

Everyone has a place or two that they want to keep secret. This is definitely one of ours. Paul and I went back to an old stomping grounds for a week long backpacking trip to celebrate his 50th birthday. Our original route was cancelled due to a fire in the area, but Plan B turned out great. We caught some cutthroats, saw 5 black bear, 5 rattlesnakes, osprey, eagles, big Chinook salmon and the Perseid meteor showers. The weather was warm for carrying heavy packs, but at least a couple rain storms drenched us. There was a microburst that came through the area one afternoon, like a freight train, that had us watching multiple trees busting over. Luckily the tall cedars, douglas firs and ponderosa pines at our camp bent, but did not break. An awesome trip in an amazing place with a great friend.

Taken during my backpacking trip to Kanlaom Volcano. This is our first stop, the Maput basecamp.

I woke up yesterday morning with an overwhelming need for Littlefee sized backpacks.

The M2RS VTOL Backpack was originally designed for reconnaissance, but it proved to be more beneficial in the hands of Marines on the ground. It was the first of it's type, and while it featured almost no armor or protection for the pilot, the M2RS proved to be a valuable asset for the Corps- in urban environments it allowed snipers to get into and out of firing positions very quickly. The M2RS transformed the battlefield for the Marines, and brought a new terror to the Separatists that fought against them.

Cumberland Island Wilderness Area (Georgia), Brickhill Bluff Campsite - I would definitely recommend this national seashore and maritime forest backpacking trip, but don't do it in the summer months unless you're hot weather and humidity acclimated (heat index was 125 F this trip).

Excluding a wild horse, we had the Brickhill Bluff camping area to ourselves. There are some nice surprises to reward the 10.5 mile hike north from the Sea Camp ferry dock. There are also plenty of day hiking opportunities from this spot, including a short 2.5 mile run to the Atlantic Ocean side beach.

Over the 13 miles hiking along the beach back to Sea Camp (where most people setup camp), we only encountered 1 researcher and 1 family (assuming they were permanent residents). That's my kind of beach.

Another shot from one of my favorite locations on the strip, outside of Planet Hollywood. First time shooting with both the Yashica Electro 35 GT and Fuji Neopan 1600. I had problems retrieving the roll from the camera as I wound on too far and stripped the sprockets. Oops! My local store managed to retrieve it with some added character of light leaks and scratches to the negs. It adds to the overall grungy feel of some of the shots from the roll.

An other thing that I love to see in China is how the old people use to carry their grand kids. This is something very commun here to see a young child carried on the back of his grand mother of grand father as they would prefer this way instead of carrying him in the harms. One difference amont the long list of cultural gap between China an Europe.

I asked this guy I was walking behind if I could take a picture of his backpack. He said sure. Sorry if you can't make out the middle words.
