A prickly poppy, its roots buried in the cool sand beneath a boulder in the Mojave riverbed, shows translucent petals in the backlight from the morning sun.

Camera: Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash (1949-1961), with Kodak Close-Up Attachment No. 13.

Film: Kodak Ektar 100 ISO Color Negative 120 film rolled onto a 620 spool, developed using The Film Photography Project's C-41 Home Processing Kit, and scanned with an Epson V600 scanner.

These flowers were in a public garden so excuse me for not knowing what they are. They *should* be called starburst though for that lovely golden star at their centre.

An instance of sunset time.

Sunlight's atmospheric transmittance is high here in California. Vivid lens flare often appears when I hold my camera with my regular 50mm f/1.8 lens to the sunlight. With my new lens, Helios 44-2, the flare appears even under weaker sunlight. At sunset, flare is often doubled, or even more like seen in this photo.
