Just prior to pinning on to her excursion consist for a series of post-Thanksgiving, "North Pole Express" trains, Valley Railroad Locomotive #97 makes her way light, out of the South Yard in Essex, CT toward the Plains Road Crossing. In the afternoon, this location is always backlit, but can produce a very pretty steam show in the chilly November air.
In recent years, the 97 has not run much, except during the holidays. That's because starting in 2018, the Valley Railroad has been gradually putting this engine through a complete overhaul, her first in the 50 years she's been here. First, she received her 1,472 day boiler inspection, and more recently, she's had a complete running gear overhaul. The work has been done mostly during the summer months, with each stage being completed in time for the Christmas Trains, when every one of the line's steam engines is needed to support the a very heavy schedule of as many as 10 departures per day.
Backlit at Chester Cathedral such a lovely place of quiet and an incredible atmosphere especially when the sun was shining. Just looked up this plant I think its Garrya elliptica good wall shrub apparently. It looked stunning especially from below with the sun behind it.

Now this may not seem like a difficult shot , but this one, i guess was one of the hardest shots i took in 2006, the backlight was enormous, you know those after summer, low standing bright sunlight. It took me about 12 pictures to get this one right, with the mirror in the pool of water and the door opening not over exposed, i had to go as fast as 1/4000 ISO 100, f16 to really tighten the exposure. To get an idea of how this was like, i uploaded another image where you can see the image if it was just 0 EV and how much backlight there really was here. Imho this one really shows the power of HDR.
