I've been really pleased that I joined the 52Photos group because the weekly challenges have made me try things I might otherwise never have thought of. I've never photographed smoke before, so I had to watch some tutorials on YouTube before having a go. It was a lot of fun. Some of the ingredients involved in creating this image were: an incense stick (I kept expecting the police to knock on my door wanting to know what I was 'growing' in my conservatory!), a black card background, a dark pet blanket (minus the pet), an off-camera flash, a flash trigger (which arrived from Amazon today), 2 small pieces of black card, an elastic band, an angle-poise lamp and a bit of fiddling in Photoshop. And, yes, smoke did get in my eyes. :)
I was trying to get a good timed exposure and some cars ran through the background providing a different light source.

A typical sort of selective shot where I focused on the subject resulting in a well blurred background.
Faculty of Geotechnology, Delft University of Technology.
Architect: Jeanne Dekkers, Gosia Wolak (2007).
The pattern on the glass is a print of sliced stones.
Delft, The Netherlands.
I probably should have titled it, "Deep. Blue. Background." The reason is because this is Crater Lake, Oregon. Not far from here it reaches a depth of 1,949 feet. It's in the top ten of deepest lakes in the world with it's ranking varying based on what a particular list bases it's measurements. (Southern Oregon Cascades trip DSC_7943.jpg)
The background was a landscape and the painting that I took in Scoharie New York. The artist was provided by Tetiana SHYSHKINA a donor photographer on Unsplash .com. I thank her for her generosity. :-)
I'm not actually interested in wildlife photography but I was visiting a local garden centre yesterday and a whole collection of rescued owls was there, surrounded by people taking photos and being photographed holding them. I've never been entirely comfortable seeing things like that but of course the impulse to take photos myself was irresistible. I also recognise that the people who take care of these beautiful creatures do a good job - the birds certainly wouldn't survive in the wild - and have to raise funds somehow. In this case the rescue centre is Lancashire Hawks and Owls and I hope they made lots of money during a very busy day. And I hope all the birds weren't as bored as they looked!
So my new (lol) passion, besides KittyCats! ( :P Thanks Mik hehe), is Green Screening.
And no I'm not proficient with it as of yet, but I am getting there.
Plus I thought it would be fun to try some backgrounds I found laying around on MP and to show off this outfit I put together from MI.CO, (I say put together, but I mean I'm sure they intended these to go with each other lol)
This shot was taken for the PHOTINGO 2017 Street Photography Challenge. Theme - 49. Metal Background
a lot of time in the house these days. Spring has come and I made a couple backgrounds my self, so good opurtunity to do some still life.

A case of poor background? Hard to see the 'subject', which is why I did not as I passed close by. Possibly a Red Diamondback? Sharon would know, maybe when she gets back we will know!

My Grecian urn against the shadow produced by the "cut-away" lampshade on the desk lamp.
Made a large matching border to "hold it in" :)
Silhouettes kissing under the bridge "Pount de la Tournelle" in Paris, in the background Notre Dame. I have waited around one hour to make this shot with the right background people.
On the far background, "Pont de l'Archevêché", where sweethearts put locks to declare their eternal love.
On a light background, shadows, silhouettes.. Glass.. against the background of light.
Silhouettes of glass and dried flowers. Light and shadow..
