An early morning photograph capturing the calm, reflective background of the Middle Fork, San Joaquin River. The reason i call this 'tranquil' is the calm, quiet feel photographing this compared to the harsh, contrasting basaltic column postpiles.

The name hyacinth comes from the Greek Hyakinthos, a handsome young man who in Greek mythology was loved by the sun god Apollo.
One day they were practicing throwing the discus but the jealous god of the West Wind, who was also in love with Hyakinthos, blew the discus back and it fatally wounded him.
From his blood grew a flower which the god Apollo named after him.
The bulbs were first brought to Western Europe in the 16th century and were first cultivated in Austria in the 1500's.
During the 17th and 18th centuries, like the tulip, it was to be found only in the collections of very rich flower collectors.
Because of the hyacinth's pervasive perfume (used in perfumery in France), the bulbs were exorbitantly expensive.
Their heady fragrance, their delicacy and their inimitable spring feeling make them very desirable.

The back drop is 7 feet across. From the back drop to the front of the table is 8 feet. The camera was three feet in front of the table and then I was behind the camera.....WOW I was just about to run out of space.

A Slinky is a toy pre-compressed helical spring invented by Richard James.
It can perform a number of tricks, including travelling down a flight of steps end-over-end as it stretches and re-forms itself with the aid of gravity and its own momentum,
In 1943, Richard James, a naval mechanical engineer stationed at the William Cramp and Sons shipyards in Philadelphia, was developing springs that could support and stabilise sensitive instruments aboard ships in rough seas.
James accidentally knocked one of the springs from a shelf, and watched as the spring "stepped" in a series of arcs to a stack of books, to a tabletop, and to the floor, where it re-coiled itself and stood upright.
James's wife Betty later recalled, "He came home and said, 'I think if I got the right property of steel and the right tension; I could make it walk.'"
James experimented with different types of steel wire over the next year, and finally found a spring that would ‘walk’.
Betty was dubious at first, but changed her mind after the toy was fine-tuned and neighbourhood children expressed an excited interest in it.
She dubbed the toy Slinky; meaning "sleek and graceful”.
On COLOURS...
Light and colour can influence how people perceive the area around them. Different light sources affect how the colours of walls and other objects are seen. Specific hues of colours seen under natural sunlight may vary when seen under the light from an incandescent (tungsten) light-bulb: lighter colours may appear to be more orange or "brownish" and darker colours may appear even darker.
Light and the colour of an object can affect how one perceives its positioning. If light or shadow, or the colour of the object, masks an object's true contour (outline of a figure) it can appear to be shaped differently than it really is.
Objects under a uniform light-source will promote better impression of three-dimensional shape.
The colour of an object may affect whether or not it seems to be in motion. In particular, the trajectories of objects under a light source whose intensity varies with space are more difficult to determine than identical objects under a uniform light source.
Carl Jung is most prominently associated with the pioneering stages of colour psychology. Jung was most interested in colours’ properties and meanings, as well as in Art’s potential as a tool for psychotherapy.
Colour has long been used to create feelings of cosiness or spaciousness. However, how people are affected by different colour-stimuli varies from person to person.
There is evidence that colour preference may depend on ambient temperature. People who are cold prefer warm colours like red and yellow while people who are hot prefer cool colours like blue and green.
A few studies have shown that cultural background has a strong influence on colour preference. These studies have shown that people from the same region regardless of race will have the same colour preferences.

testing a new camera... not sure if I 'll keep it
please, feel free to comment on the quality
not zoomed in from that far (about 3m I think) but quite large
the lilac in the back are the lilacs (flowers) in the back of my garden
the sun was not shining, so I put my orchids at the end of the table near the window which makes them kind of backlit
I don 't like that one can see little stains when enlarged instead of it becoming just mat and unclear, but I probably shouldn 't extend the zoom that much, maybe it was not so steady either.... always something disappointing... uploading for instance, got to copy paste to get them in my pictures library and not automaticly loading the battery when connected to computer and I had expected more of the 20 megapixels instead of only 16 with the Nikon, the colors seem to be better though... must test much more yet, blue skies for instance! waiting for them..; and the battery!!!
but it is very handy for shooting, it has a grip for my fingers to the right, no risk for my thumb anymore, can put my left hand under/holding the fixed lens, feels even lighter than the former like this while it is not, should be easier to stabilize ( ! ) and it has a stronger zoom... got 2 weeks to try out, we 'll see...
Four candy-pink, Ranunculus, beauties.
Persian buttercup (Ranunculus asiaticus) is a perennial plant that can grow to be a foot and a half tall. They have blooms that resemble roses, with simple , like HERE, or branched stems.
The petals are often highly lustrous, some species are popular ornamental flowers in horticulture, with many cultivars selected for large and brightly coloured flowers.
What got me 'in' to 'flower-photography', was that I was fascinated by ‘light’ and wanted to know more about lighting...
That was 27 years ago, started with painting and evolved into photography. Flowers seemed the perfect subject matter, because of their different colours, shapes, textures, great variety and 'characters', I'd had many a garden, grown my own, so, I started out with an advantage, I knew about flowers...
I found a niche in the market, for 15 years now people have been 'raving' about them, asking me how I 'do' it? Copying, imitating and stealing, photos, words and even titles. They say it is the highest ‘accolade’ for an artist? LOL.
There is NO magic formula, each flower is unique and treated as such! I do NOT consider myself a 'flower-photographer' but a a photographer who knows how to use lighting well...

Today is first day of Spring, but here unfortunately, only in the calendar... Outside today all day was snowing, so I can to look at the Spring only on my home window ;)
Sonnenberg Gardens, also known as Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park, Canandaigua, New York, USA, at the North end of Canandaigua Lake, in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. The house and gardens are open to the public every day, May through October.
The property was once the summer home of Frederick Ferris Thompson, a prominent banker in New York City, and his wife Mary Clark Thompson, whose father, Myron Holley Clark, was Governor of New York State in 1855. The Clark family was from Canandaigua, NY. Mr. & Mrs. Thompson's main home was in NYC in a large townhouse on Madison Avenue. The Thompsons purchased the Sonnenberg property in 1863, keeping the name, Sonnenberg (which means "sunny hill" in German). In 1887, they replaced the original farmhouse with a forty-room Queen Anne style mansion. The property also had a 100-acre farm to the east. Sonnenberg's gardens were designed and built between 1902–1919, and originally consisted of nine gardens in a variety of styles.

I decided to process a different shot of a scene I had previously presented. In this scene the sun is illuminating more of the background. This is a composite image with a stack of 8 exposures for the water in order to smooth out the tones, a darker exposure for the background to retain detail, and a lighter exposure of the foliage.
