I don't usually like to put up new versions of old images, but I've broken my rule in this case. The previous version didn't give a sense of the scale of the building: it was just a crop of the top. This version, I hope, better conveys the height.

The laughing kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) is a bird in the kingfisher subfamily Halcyoninae. It is a large robust kingfisher with a whitish head and a dark eye-stripe. The upperparts are mostly dark brown but there is a mottled light-blue patch on the wing coverts. The underparts are white and the tail is barred with rufous and black. The plumage of the male and female birds is similar. The territorial call is a distinctive laugh that is often delivered by several birds at the same time, and is widely used as a stock sound effect in situations that involve a jungle setting.
The laughing kookaburra is native to eastern mainland Australia, but has also been introduced to parts of New Zealand, Tasmania, and Western Australia. It occupies dry eucalypt forest, woodland, city parks and gardens. This species is sedentary and occupies the same territory throughout the year. It is monogamous, retaining the same partner for life. A breeding pair can be accompanied by up to five fully grown non-breeding offspring from previous years that help the parents defend their territory and raise their young. The laughing kookaburra generally breeds in unlined tree holes or in excavated holes in arboreal termite nests. The usual clutch is three white eggs. The parents and the helpers incubate the eggs and feed the chicks. The youngest of the three nestlings or chicks is often killed by the older siblings. When the chicks fledge they continue to be fed by the group for six to ten weeks until they are able to forage independently.
A predator of a wide variety of small animals, the laughing kookaburra typically waits perched on a branch until it sees an animal on the ground and then flies down and pounces on its prey. Its diet includes lizards, insects, worms, snakes and are known to take goldfish out of garden ponds. (Wikipedia)

Macro Mondays theme : Vegetables
Bok Choy is a type of Chinese cabbage. I love to use it in my cooking. It adds a touch of luscious green and as we know, green vegetables are good for us! There are of course many varieties of Bok Choy. I bought the “junior” ones (or miniature if you prefer) for my picture. I trimmed the bok choy to get to the center part. I ended up with a 2” tall bok choy! I normally use the regular ones for my cooking but the junior ones are just as good.
Enjoy! And don’t forget to eat your greens!

Hi dear Flickr friends of LE and shadows,
I spent a lot of time this summer in Bregenz/ Austria for kayaking and Stand up paddling on the camping, so the last two weeks. I paddled hundreds of kilometers on the upper part of the Lake Constance. You know my home is at the lower part at Reichenau Island, Mettnau Island and Love Island. Now I'm back home but not for long, because of traveling.
I earlier times I uploaded my photos while my trips but this is not my intention already for a long time. The editing and uploading I like to do at home, when I'm back. And I will come back. It will take a little time but I will come back in October.
Have a wonderful time, a great September with sunny weather. And by the way: I will paddle though the winter, so that I will bring you home a lot of homeland photos from the lake that I love.

PS: The background-story of this long exposure: I made this photo with the intention of a normal LE. So I stood at the shore while the camera was working. Suddenly this child came from behind, like my own shadow, bumping into my tripod, so that I was shouting....! Now you know all about this “artistic work”...;)
Candid shot of a Capitol Hill Arts Workshop student in my Washington, D.C. photo class. Single dot focusing was on the rim of the student's lens but special attention was on the background, framing the subject in the doorway and using the photo of the wall to balance the image.
Well, I had a HORRID time finding, moving and then posting this little quilt! The background fabric is from a single piece of cotton lawn that I dyed in multi pastels. The "hydrangeas" are cut from particular bits of the same piece of fabric and many other pieces of fabric- greens, deeper pinks, purples, blues etc- all hand dyed. It is just a little "out of my head " piece . Once, in 1995, DH and I had a brief but magical visit to Giverny , Monet's house and garden in France... sigh!!!
Having 'climbed' into Bishopstone Station in the background (though you wouldn't think it) 313 215 begins the downhill stretch into Seaford. In the far distance can be seen the Southdowns and the outskirts of Newhaven.

What's up everyone. After 2 weeks I've finally found the time to do some photo processing. I've taken a bunch of photos over this break and will be making a full return. I've got a lot of Flickr to catch up on this coming weekend. Hope everyone had a great new year and I'm looking forward to seeing all the photos I've missed.
This was taken on a hike at Koko Head Crater in Hawaii Kai. It's a hike on an abandoned rail track going straight up the side of this mountain. The railway and bunkers on the peak were used during WW2 but now rest in an abandoned state of decay. This is a view of Hawaii Kai from the very top about 20 minutes before sunset. Hiking this trail helped me realize how out of shape I was :) New years resolution do more hikes...
First Vertorama of the year for me. bottom and top made from 7 exposures in photomatix. Blended the -3 exposure back onto parts of the sunset sky. Manually stitched both sections, curves, saturation, unsharp mask, and noise ninja.
A shot I recently added to the PhotographyTextures.com DVD, of a grungy brick wall wall, complete with bicycle tread marks.
