🎼: Walking in a Winterwonderland ~ Pentatonix~|

✈️ : Cherishville

Here's a little song I wrote

You might want to sing it note for note

Don't worry (don't worry), be happy

Don't worry be happy now

Don't worry, oh no

Don't worry (don't worry), be happy

Don't worry, be happy now

Oh, don't worry,

'Cause we're walking in a winter wonderland

I saw this alien snowman in the gardens outside my office today. After 15 days, my (non)provider has finally managed to get me back online - my normal Flickr service will be resumed as soon as possible: many thanks for your patience.

nach dem sehr sehr anstrengendem Weihnachtsgeschäft und der damit verbundenen Umtauschaktion, ist es nun langsam an der Zeit meine Flickr-Abstinenz zu beenden, um mich einfach mal wieder blicken zu lassen

.......

After the very exhausting Christmas business and the exchange it is now slowly time for me to take care of Flickr again.

I hope the picture title is the program for the coming time

Sorry for being late, but I was away for some days, visiting my bro!

My family and I spent a week in Grand Cayman last summer. We liked it so much that we decided to come back this year for 2 weeks :) Can June come by fast enough?

In flight. White storks fly with their necks outstretched.

Migrating white storks use the uplift of air thermals to reduce the effort of long-distance flying.

... came blowin in - from across the sea

It lingered there, so warm and fair - to walk with me

All summer long, we sang a song - and strolled on golden sand

Two sweethearts, and the summer wind...

Early this afternoon I happened to be doing some birdwatching from a different window than usual when I noticed a splash of purple in one of the flowerbeds next to the back of the house. The purple iris were blooming again!

Had to check them out to see if they were photo worthy and thankfully these two were! There were two iris stalks, both laying on the ground, but only this one had blooms that were in pretty good shape.

Last April, these iris shocked me by blooming, when it had been ages since they had done anything. After looking at my flower album, the last photo I took of these was April of 2010, and the next was in April of 2024, last year! How is that even possible? Maybe that touch of true winter weather we had was cold enough to kick start them? Now I have high hopes, maybe next year we'll have a three-peat!

It's been a long & ridiculous 2 weeks but I'm back & Baobao's also on his back again. :-)

The Oriole is back! With the recent cold snap in our area with nighttime temps down into the 20's F, it seems the mealworm feeder has once again become a point of interest for the Baltimore Oriole which we hadn't seen for a few weeks now.

But yesterday morning and again this morning he showed up shortly after I'd filled the feeder! No way to know for certain it's the same one, but the odd's of a different male Oriole showing at the same feeder seem pretty slim. Fingers crossed whoever this is, he'll stick around for another few days.

And yes, I know this is not the greatest picture, but the morning sun glaring through the window was not about to stop me from wanting to at least document this sighting!

Sorry for being away and it will take a good time to get up to date! Please respect my privacy and be patient! Not much time for flickr!

I've been away from flickr for a long time now, but I've always associated it with positive things, so I'm back again. The last time I was really active here was in 2014-2015, when I was living in Shanghai. A lot has changed since then, and it's a good time for me to return.

This photo fits in with my ongoing phone booth/pay phone project, only I've had to reevaluate the whole thing recently. The project, officially stated, captures one obsolescent thing using another obsolescent thing, and so it was all going to be done on film. I was using Fuji ACROS and medium format cameras for it, but now ACROS is discontinued and sold out in Japan, and even if I found more of the stuff, it would be a temporary solution only. I know there are other films available, but at vastly greater cost here in Tokyo (I don't want to pay $12/roll for Tri-X, for example). And so, for now, I'll be continuing the project with digital until I figure out a good film alternative and reconcile the digital shots philosophically. I'm not against digital, keep in mind, it's just that it clashes with the original concept of the project.

The last time I was really active here on flickr was when I was living in Shanghai. I left Shanghai and moved to Tokyo on March 31, 2015. Since then, it's been a bit of a battle with many fronts, trying to build a whole life, largely from scratch. When I arrived, I arrived with all the fresh wounds of an apocalyptic breakup and all the detritus of years of chronic depression shoveled on top. It was not the easiest way to start afresh. But here I am, 3½ years later, living in Saitama and engaged and happy and still working my ass off.

Flickr has always been a good place for me, and I'm looking forward to getting a bit more involved again. Right now, my life is dominated by launching a business, and at this stage, it's not a business that involves photography. That makes me a bit sad. Still, it does involve acquiring a studio workspace, and so photography is woven into the fabric of it. I can't wait until that launches.

You've got it all

You lost your mind in the sound

There's so much more

You can reclaim your crown

You're in control

Rid of the monsters inside your head

Put all your faults to bed

You can be king again

Tea and a rainy day

I don't know

Who told you that you had to be

perfect

But you don't

I hope you know that

I miss you all greatly. Really I do - you are all some of the most kind and supportive people I've known and its about time I've started surrounding myself with positive people again. I'm sorry I've been away so long.

I've been having a rough time lately but I decided, since photography has always helped me through the storm, that I would try and take pictures. I know this is not what I normally do - for one, it does not have my face in it. But I like it.

When we had 19 degrees in New Orleans back in March, ALL our banana trees, elephant ears and ginger seemed to be gone, but LOOK at what it looked like by July! Our little oasis again!

After my excitement yesterday over seeing an Eastern Bluebird at the mealworm feeder, I claimed it was a "Blue Monday" and fingers were crossed for a Blue Tues, Blue Wed, etc.

Well, I got my wish, and then some! I actually spotted two Bluebirds at the mealworm feeder at the same time - but wasn't able to get a shot, but there were plenty more sightings. Caught this one in a tree just outside our sunroom window, no doubt waiting for an opening at that mealworm feeder.

Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Unfortunately, it seems the Grackles are back! And worse yet, they brought some of their European Starling friends with them, too!

We can only hope this recent development is only temporary, and soon our backyard will return to normal. And yes, normal seems to be a relative term for our yard, as we never know who will show up next.
