Azaleas /əˈzeɪliə/ are flowering shrubs in the genus Rhododendron, particularly the former sections Tsutsusi (evergreen) and Pentanthera (deciduous). Azaleas bloom in the spring (April and May in the temperate Northern Hemisphere, and October and November in the Southern Hemisphere), their flowers often lasting several weeks. Shade tolerant, they prefer living near or under trees. They are part of the family Ericaceae.

For Smile on Saturday theme: Nature in Hand
We trimmed back two plants that were growing close together...these are some of the buds which had yet to open. A different species from my image ‘Side by Side’ which has smaller blossoms.
Thank you kindly for your visit, comments and faves... very much appreciated. 😀
My white Azalea is in full flower at the moment. The flowers are some 6cm across in size. HMM on a cool and rainy day in Melbourne

One of the first and most beautiful spring flowering native azaleas to bloom, Rhododendron vaseyi (Pink-Shell Azalea) is a deciduous, irregular rounded shrub which features trusses of 4 to 8 delicate pink to white, flat faced flowers on leafless stems, with some prominent spotting in their throat. Blooming in mid-spring, the blossoms appear before the foliage of shiny, dark green leaves emerge. It is a splendid border shrub that is native to the southern Blue Ridge Mountains.
