Oconee Azalea (Rhododendron flammeum). If I see an orange-flowered azalea in the north Georgia woods in April (or early May at higher elevations), then I assume it is Oconee Azalea. If I see one in late May or June, then I assume it is Flame Azalea (Rhododendron calendulaceum). Fort Mountain State Park, Murray County, Georgia.
READ THIS !!!! The brick border around this azalea bed is made from bricks of old buildings when 1/2 of a city block of our little town burned down, due to arson. One of the guys involved in this was released, and just a few months later killed one of the sweetest women in town that he did lawn work for. Sad Story.
