Visible is the upper body of a man, over which the Latin phrase "Homo Homini Lupus", "Man is a wolf to man" from the comedy "Stupid Foolish Thing" of the Roman poet Titus Maccius Plautus is written in white letters. The sentence became known through the English philosopher Thomas Hobbes, who used it in his state-philosophical work "Leviathan" to describe the human quest for power.
For the gallery xhoch4, AxelVoid developed a complete new body of work artwork: one week before the exhibition opening, he entered the gallery. In luggage his bags: paint and brushes. Mediocre is the first of a series of works, it documents the everyday life of a 22 year old citizen of Ingolstadt chosen randomly---Nicole Burnett.
Nicole was born in Rosenheim, to Polish parents. She moved several times in her childhood, to places such as Nordhausen, Fulda, and Lake Park, Georgia (USA). At the age of 15 she moved to Ingolstadt with her mother and stepfather. One year later she began living alone intermediately, until today. Currently she shares apartment with her boyfriend (Bene) and works as a barista, bartender and cook.
This show invites the spectator to reflect about an existentialist point of view in life, empathizing with Nicole's context.

“Every time a man is begotten and born, the clock of human life is wound up a new to repeat once more its same old tune that has already been played innumerable times, movement by movement and measure by measure, with insignificant variations.” – Arthur Schopenhauer
Statement:
Mediocre is a series of expositions, actions, murals, and various types of intervention, each one a complementary part of the whole, while keeping its individual reading. From an analytic and existentialist standpoint, Mediocre exposes different aspects of the everyday—the day-to-day of the people that make up an intrahistory, the history of those who don't appear in textbooks, those who go undocumented and form a part of the enormous group we call the people.
It examines various themes, seeking out the extremes that emerge in distinct cultures and contexts. It is possible to separate these extremes into three categories: the positive, the negative, and the neutral. The positive refers to pleasure and beauty, the negative to violence, death, and tragedy, and the neutral (also considered an extreme) is the absence of both. These concepts are equivocal: from cynical, nihilist or pessimist, to vitalist or even romantic, these interpretations can change depending on the observer.
Mediocre in Ottawa will present a selection of works and a workshop. The exact images and themes of the selected works were chosen at random, yet fall into the Mediocre concept. The workshop will be comprised of people in the city from different backgrounds (homeless, addicts, housewives, and working class people, to name a few) interpreting the theme through their own paintings. These works will also be exposed and put up for sale in the Mediocre show at Le Petite Mort Gallery. – AxelVoid, 2011

Four faces and four artist. Each one started a sketch and then we changed to the next one every 5 minutes or so. After an hour this is what came out.
"A ton age best normal" My parents use to tell this to each other when they where young. I thought it was a good phrase for this wall.

This work is part of the series "Poor". She dresses the facade of the Chamberclerc, a social housing residence in the center of Montreal offering housing to people with mental illness who have lived on the street or with addiction problems. This work is a portrait of Adrian, he lived in the building for years, even before it became a social housing. The word "Person" written on the mural thus takes on a double meaning here and represents both the individual and the unknown.

Under the title Mediocre – Berlin the work of the Spanish-American painter Axel Void is shown for the first time in a solo-exhibition in Berlin. This show frames the 4th version of Mediocre as an exhibition and sets a focus on the average life in Berlin. A mix of canvases and mural painting will be shown in the old boathouse on the River Spree. This space will be used for a short time, from the 22nd till 24th of June as an exhibition space. The very different motives show the subjective view of Axel Void, who chooses the exact images and themes at random. The works are shown together in a way that they create a sense of relationship and contrast at the same time. Basis of the paintings are photographies that blend with the observations of the artist - facts and fiction melt into each other. The result is a complex and ambiguous view of a city in its state of being extraordinarily mediocre.
