Carpenter bees (the genus Xylocopa in the subfamily Xylocopinae) are large, hairy bees distributed worldwide. There are some 500 species of carpenter bee in 31 subgenera. Their name comes from the fact that nearly all species build their nests in burrows in dead wood, bamboo, or structural timbers (except those in the subgenus Proxylocopa, which nest in the ground). Members of the related tribe Ceratinini are sometimes referred to as "small carpenter bees"

It has been an unsual weather pattern at the equator these few weeks. During the day it is extremely hot and by nightfall the weather changes to a torrential downpour...Not to mention the humidity...Have an enjoyable weekend everyone and thank you for stopping by my stream. Cheers, Ringgo.

Walking through St James Park, London, October 2007

I really like this butterfly, it looks like he has hearts on its wings. I hope you will like it too!

This is a Turtle Dove that was fluttering around flirting with it's mate, it would flutter from branch to branch while chasing, or being chased by the other one.

I had to crank the ISO up pretty high due to the low light, so this shot is pretty noisy, I thought it was still worth posting.

Framed this for a friend

Helleborus orientalis - heute an diesem sonnigen Sonntag !

This beautiful bird is at the Dallas Zoo. I do not know what kind of bird this is.

Taken on a very dark and rainy evening. Desaturated and Photomatix HDR Software applied to try to recreate the mood. The intent was to get near B&W, but with just a little color remaining.

For my dearest friend Ellen (who is always there, a great friend and photographer and like me loves roses) wishing her a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY and many happy days I sent the first rose that bloomed in my veranda this Spring - after the rain a ray of sun came to give us all hope and joy to this new season - also in your life, my friend - may it be full of light and joy(as you give us in your unique pictures). May Joy and Light follow you always and thank you for your friendship. Be happy and enjoy!

Mount Fuji on a clear day,

Mount Fuji (Fujisan) is with 3776 meters Japan's highest mountain. It is not surprising that the nearly perfectly shaped volcano has been worshipped as a sacred mountain and experienced big popularity among artists and common people.

Mount Fuji is a dormant volcano, which most recently erupted in 1708. It stands on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures and can be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days

Time Well Spent

See tiny fingers and tiny toes,

Bright baby eyes, cute baby nose;

Hear baby gurgles and baby sighs,

As Mom and Dad sing lullabies.

Life is changed, but that's okay;

It's fun to spend glad hours each day,

Taking time for all the good

That comes along with parenthood.
