Sikh pioneers in Sarawak... In 1857, the Chinese uprising started in the gold mining town of Bau, which is about 20 miles (about 33 kilometres) from the town of Kuching. Sir James Brooke, the first white Rajah of Sarawak, fled to Singapore where he took refuge with the Governor of the Straits Settlements. He subsequently recruited personnel for the Sarawak Police Force in Singapore.' The first batch of 13 Sikhs led by Dewa Singh Akhara, were brought to Kuching.

These Sikhs played an important role in bringing peace, law and order to this area. Sikhs who came later were employed as prison wardens by the Government and as security personnel by the Sarawak Shell Company in Miri.

This is one of a few first photos I took with my new Nikkor 105 2.8 VR lens. I had 7 minutes, so I quickly drove to a place I knew had some flowers and whipped out my camera. It was quite windy but I just clicked away. The only photoshopping on this was to remove a tiny white spot a the front petal. Other than that, it is what it is. I was blown away by the sharpness of this lens. I love it already

Short sunbreak before the downpour today. I've got the traditional weekly photo for later. The sugar maple tree is the star of the street right now.

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me.

Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me.

I'm taking a chance, this could be different.

This could be all I'm waiting for.

May 1 is a national holiday in Malaysia. Malaysia started observing the holiday in 1972 following an announcement by the late Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Tun Dr Ismail. In his historic speech, he hoped that the decision to observe May 1 as a national holiday would encourage the Malaysian labor movements to feel the need to be bound to the purpose of the national aspiration.

Since this year the Labour Day falls on Sunday, the public holiday will be automatically be replaced on the next following day which is on Monday next week.
