Poacée de 60-120 cm aux limbes caulinaires très larges, de 5-15 mm, et ligule membraneuse fortement dentée de 3-6 mm. Panicule lâche de gros épillet. Glumes égales de 2-2,5 cm, dépassant nettement les fleurons, à 7-9 nervures parallèles. 2-3 fleurons fertiles, à lemme couverte de poils raides, munie d'une arête épaisse, coudée, à base torsadée, fixée au milieu du dos.
Espèce commensale des cultures basidiphiles d'hiver (cf. P Jauzein et O Nawrot).

This series captures the movement of avena fatua, wild oats, being stirred by breezes. Using an iPhone and a little macro clip lens I look for movement, play of light and interaction of the avena “flowers”. This photo was lightly edited in CS5 to crop, balance light/dark and amend blown highlights. I am now looking more closely at every grassy clump I see...
