The remnants of an avalanche in the backcountry at Glacier National Park. The snow rumbled down the chute in the background and plowed over the trees in the foreground. Thanks for faves and comments!

On our first full day in Glacier, we decided to start the day with sunrise at Apgar, take a scenic drive to Polebridge for some much acclaimed pastries, and then work our way back to the east side of the park, stopping at several points along the way for a hike or two. By the time we got to the Trail of the Cedars, it was overcast and looked like it could rain anytime. But never fear, we had our rain gear with us and decided to go for it anyway. I'm sure glad we did because we were treated to some amazing scenery and saturated colors compliments of Mother Nature :-)
Avalanche Lake is located in a cirque on the west side of the continental divide. Massive mountains surround the lake, providing an unforgettable scenic experience. The lake itself is named for the numerous avalanches that roar down the surrounding mountains. (source: bigskyfishing.com)
Have a great Tuesday, and as always, thanks for all your visits and comments!!!!!
Another one of the beautiful waterfalls that I was fortunate to visit on my recent trip to New Hampshire.
This is Avalanche Falls in Franconia Notch State Park, with drop of 25 feet it is at the top of the Flume Gorge.
Enjoy,
Mike
Leonard Cohen - Avalanche please listen (if you're not normally a fan, it doesn't matter.. I'm not either.... but they go together)
Well I stepped into an avalanche,
It covered up my soul;
When I am not this hunchback that you see,
I sleep beneath the golden hill.
You who wish to conquer pain,
You must learn, learn to serve me well.
You strike my side by accident
As you go down for your gold.
The cripple here that you clothe and feed
Is neither starved nor cold;
He does not ask for your company,
Not at the centre, the centre of the world.
When I am on a pedestal,
You did not raise me there.
Your laws do not compel me
To kneel grotesque and bare.
I myself am the pedestal
For this ugly hump at which you stare.
You who wish to conquer pain,
You must learn what makes me kind;
The crumbs of love that you offer me,
They're the crumbs I've left behind.
Your pain is no credential here,
It's just the shadow, shadow of my wound.
I have begun to long for you,
I who have no greed
I have begun to ask for you,
I who have no need.
You say you've gone away from me,
But I can feel you when you breathe.
Do not dress in those rags for me,
I know you are not poor
You don't love me quite so fiercely now
When you know that you are not sure,
It is your turn, beloved,
It is your flesh that I wear.

That was one big view across from Sittlisalp.
You will notice the different lines and curves from the mountain skiers.
You will see that there is only one couloir, which you really can take from the top.
You see also on the top the zigzag lines from the ones ascending the mountains with their special climbing skies.
And finally, you will see at the bottom an avalanche area from earlier this year.
Here's a new one from a rainy and stormy day out in Glacier National Park, Montana. This is Avalanche Creek which is fed by Avalanche Lake high up in the mountains of the park. The water in the creek really is this blue; due in part to the many glaciers that feed the lake itself. The rocks that line this canyon are gorgeous shades of red. It really is a beautiful place!

Sunrises on summits are just amazing. Especially when you choose a peak in the Banff/Moraine Lake area. The views are stunning and there was a lot of drama in the skies and gorgeous light happening on this morning. Behind me the valley was full of color. In this direction though only a small patch of clouds picked up the sunrise colors and it looks like an avalanche of fire heading down to Horseshoe lake.

Une nouvelle photo d'Avalanche , je n'ai pas encore complètement terminé son personnage mais il commence a prendre forme , manque juste un beau decor sur le haut du crane :)
"The power of water has literally shaped the entire planet, it is the single most driving force... a true artist of sculpture, and even life."
Looking down into Avalanche Gorge on our way to Avalanche Lake. Was a wonderful hike, full of beautiful sights, sounds and smells. Avalanche Creek really roars and rumbles thru this tight chasm.
Have a marvelous Monday.
First you hear what sounds like a rumble of thunder or a low flying jet, look around startled and then you see the first small waterfalls of snow. Usually they are followed by much more significant falls just like this one seen on the lower slopes of the Wetterhorn near Grindelwald. This picture was taken during the afternoon thaw whilst we walked back to Grindelwald from Kliene Shiedegg.
It isn't the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it's the pebble in your shoe.
Happy Fenced Friday!
Avalanche Lake in Glacier National Park on a cloudy day. One of the most popular hikes due to great scenery and relative ease of the hike you need to get there early to get a parking space.

Reach the high point on the trail at 1.9 miles. From here the trail descends to the foot of lovely Avalanche Lake (3,905-ft.), sitting at the base of the Avalanche Basin, at 2.2 miles. Views open to the sheer cliffs of the cirque ringing the head of the basin. The Little Matterhorn (7,886-ft.), a pyramid shaped peak, rises along the ridge to the south. Unseen beyond the Little Matterhorn is the Sperry Glacier, feeding meltwater to Monument Falls and many of the other waterfalls spilling down the steep cliffs beyond the lake. Nearer at hand is a log jam at the lake’s outlet.
Revelation 6:16
They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!
