The faintly pencilled circle on the shoulder show the position for the arm. One arm will be jointed at both shoulder and elbow, so that it can move when attached to the handle of the music box. It will look as though the arm is turning the music box, whereas in fact the opposite is true. The other arm will rest on the top of the music box. The music box mechanism will be disguised by being placed inside a case and standing on a pole, that looks like a street musician's instrument.

Once the geometry had been established, a test rig was built to fine tune the workings in 3 dimensions. Each mechanical linkage was tested and refined individually before joining them together to form a gear train. This photo shows the skewed cam mechanism which pivots the tail.

This automaton was featured in the window of a Fuji print shop on the high street at Porthmadog. It raised the camera to it's face and the flash went off. I attempted to take it with a Fuji camera which would have been quite appropriate but it was to sunny and to many reflections in the window, however my attempt on film was somewhat better probably because the sun wasn't so strong.
