Paper automaton with sand powered

By hand operated automata are brought almost always with a crank drive or lever in movement. More seldom with a pendulum or with the gravitation on a ramp. A less known method is the sand drive. This has succeeded in this model by "Walter Ruffler".

I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost....

The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men - cries out for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world - millions of despairing men, women, and little children - victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people.

To those who can hear me, I say - do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. .....

Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you - enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural! Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty!

In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written: “the Kingdom of God is within man” - not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people have the power - the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.

Then - in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will!

Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers! in the name of democracy, let us all unite!

C1-10P, commonly known as "Chopper," or simply "Chop," was a masculine C1-series astromech droid manufactured by Industrial Automaton that was active during the Clone Wars and the early years of the Galactic Empire. He was a member of the Spectres, a rebel cell led by the Twi'lek captain Hera Syndulla and the Jedi Kanan Jarrus that fought against the Empire. He was responsible for maintaining the Ghost, a modified VCX-100 light freighter which served as the rebel cell's main base of operations.

During his time with the crew of the Ghost, Chopper took part in numerous raids and missions against Imperial targets. Due to his old age and lack of regular maintenance, Chopper developed an argumentative, cantankerous, and mischievous personality. Despite these personality flaws, he was a loyal member of his rebel crew. Later, Chopper and his fellow rebels joined the Phoenix Cell, which was part of the rebellion. In 3 BBY, he befriended the Imperial RA-7 protocol droid AP-5. Together, the two played an important role in helping the Phoenix rebels discover a new base on the planet Atollon, which was named Chopper Base in Chopper's honor.

Two beautifully designed Shell badges showcasing Edward Mcknight Kauffer's 'oiling the joints' automaton figure that debuted during Shell's 1930s 'Lubrication by Shell' campaign. This automaton logo was so appropriate for an automotive lubrication product and was applied to a plethora of garage products such as Shell oil cans, oil funnel pourers, oil workstation units and grease cans. Kauffer used this design in prototype form in the book he illustrated for Frederick Birkenhead's 'The World in 2030 A.D.' (1930)

Kauffer was a prestigious 20th Century graphic artist who designed over 140 posters for London Underground, and later London Transport. He experimented with a number of styles that touched upon futurism, cubism and vorticism. He also excelled in his work for Shell, creating a number of powerful posters throughout the 1920s and 1930s.

PoIC can be understood as "cellular automaton."

I am drawn to this guy. He's a mechanical fortune teller from the Musee Mechanique in San Francisco. He is so sad looking and has so much personality that he must have been hand made - maybe even based on a real person. If I could write, I would write a story about how he was a Russian bewitched into this automaton, unable to escape his prison.

To the "fix my pic" group - I'd think this would be really freaky if someone shopped in human eyes.

I wanted to make something with a grey and gold color scheme, as I hadn't really tried doing that before. I gave it a silver arm simply because I don't have 2 golden Lewa masks and also because Jetstream Sam is cool.

The Lactating Automaton is a silent short film, shot on 35mm in the fabulous location of Birr Castle in October '10 and Jan '11. It was directed by Andrew Legg, with Olwen Kelleghan as production designer. I came on board as Art Director in this challenging steampunk period piece. We had a team of talented model makers who made and maintained the various robots on set, while I managed set dressing and standby props with the assistance of Mark Kilbride.

For a small tip, he opens his box and lets you learn your future

Made by Phalibois in Paris France. As he dabs his lips with a handkerchief and swings his ornate cane, this monkey epitomizes the "dandy" who emerged in 1790s London and appeared in French society by the 1820s. Dandies placed huge importance on looks and tried to imitate an aristocratic lifestyle.

You all know that brown crate parts can be used to make nice minifig-scale furniture, like clocks or cabinets.

These ones, however, were just plain boring. I planned to change them slightly to give them steampunk-like look, but didn't suceed at all. :)

Taken at the beautiful Chateau De La Marliere, merci beaucoup Antoine!

The mouth of the Automaton can open up quite a bit more than this.

I draw this while at Chuck E. Cheese, where a kid can be a kid.
