Based on a standard Polaroid 420 Automatic Land Camera, this camera has been extensively modified to be able to shoot at professional standards.
The original f8.8 lens and automatic shutter have been replaced with a German made, 1960's Agfa Agnar, 105mm, f6.3, coated glass lens, mounted in a Vario size 00 shutter. The shutter features full X-sync for flash, cable release socket and bulb mode, making it perfect for shooting in all scenarios. The mechanical nature of the shutter also means that the camera no longer requires batteries!
The new 105mm lens is not only faster than the original lens, but also much sharper. It features a beautifully shallow depth of field when wide open, with lovely bokeh. Coverage is 100% full frame, with no noticeable vignetting. This makes the camera the perfect choice for anyone wanting manual control over their shots, on a totally unique camera.

The 105mm AGFA lens has been mounted and focus optimized for coupling to the original 114mm rangefinder. Both portrait distances and infinity settings are tack sharp.
The body of the camera has been fitted with a custom made tripod socket, made from a solid block of aluminium. I actually cannot claim credit for this, as it was installed on the camera by its previous owner. I did make it look a little neater though, and added a third mounting screw.
Lastly, the camera has been finished cosmetically with some snazzy scarlet red accents, which give the camera it's name (scharlach is the German word for scarlet).
My willingness and desire to live in a society with less throwaway and more reusability, was today substantialized by my purchase of a second hand Husqvarna Automatic 21A. A sewing-machine from the 70:s, totally imbued with genuine quality and durability. No plastic gear here! No limitation of useful life! Plainly a machine that is built to function. The way all machines should be built, long before the streamlining and downsizing of companies. When customers were willing to pay the actual cost of a great product.

Feels wrong driving a Transit with an automatic gearbox. Good van though, just missing a few bits of trim.
The Pen EM is the first Japanese camera to have an electric driven motor drive and rewind system.
The Olympus Pen EM went on sale in 1965 with three new features: an electronic shutter, automatic film advance, and automatic rewind.
The electronic shutter allowed an exposure range from 30 sec. down to 1/500 sec. according to the brightness of the subject. Power for the shutter, film advance and rewind systems was provided by two AA batteries. While the Olympus Pen EM had a major influence on the future of electronic technology and automation in cameras, there were manufacturing problems that could not be overcome with the technology then available. Sadly, production ceased after just one year.

Power source: Two size “AA” 1.5 volt dry cells alkaline type. Will last for over 5 rolls of film.

The Portugieser originated in the 1930s; it is one of the older model line at IWC. The story is that the watch came about from a request from two Portuguese merchants for a wristwatch with the precision of a pocket watch.

Seen on a 1978 PEUGEOT 504 Automatique. It's striking Peugeot emphasizes the use of an automatic gearbox. Why should they? Or were these features so special in the 70s?
It's always nice to see these good-looking 504s.
Designed by Aldo Brovarone for Pininfarina and presented in 1968. In 1983 came the last one from the French Peugeot plants.
