Automated conveyor systems are increasingly being used in a number of different industries for the safe transportation of materials because of the fact that they minimize manual labor and at the same time improve efficiency. Pictured is the coal feed screw that has been removed for restoration of the 5711 Tender. In it's day it was installed with a motorised stoker as men could not shovel coal into the furnace at the rate required for the D57 class. Top speed 80km/h!

TV news videographers shoot the testing of the Alaskan Way Viaduct's new automated closure gates system at the Bell Street on-ramp in Seattle. The system closes all nine access points to the viaduct when sensors detect an earthquake. WSDOT tested the system during the viaduct's semiannual inspection and maintenance closures on March 19-20, 2011.

Beachy Head rises 530 feet above the sea below and is the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain.
The main reason for Beachy Head's popularity is the wonderful panoramic view which can be seen from the cliff top. If you look east you see the beaches and town of Eastbourne, the Pier and the Harbour, and then on to Pevensey Bay and Hastings and, on an exceptionally clear day, Dungeness in Kent, nearly 40 miles away.
Looking west, you can see even further, up to 70 miles, past Seaford Head to Newhaven and Brighton and then on to Selsey Bill near Chichester in West Sussex.

Beachy Head Lighthouse
Built in the sea below Beachy Head. It is 141 ft high and became operational in October 1902.
For more than 80 years, the red-and-white striped tower was manned by three lighthouse keepers. Their job was to maintain the light, which rotates, making two white flashes every 20 seconds. It was then visible 26 nautical miles out to sea.
The lighthouse was fully automated in 1983 and the keepers withdrawn.

TWI’s CrystalTM software makes ultrasonic inspection of industrial structures using Full-Matrix Capture (FMC), Virtual Source Aperture (VSA) and Plane Wave Imaging (PWI) easy.
The fully automated software delivers an intuitive interface for ultrasonic inspection techniques with high defect detection and sizing accuracy capabilities and real time inspection via planar or complex geometry structures.
These capabilities mean that Crystal can be integrated into in-service and production environments within industries including nuclear, defence, oil and gas, aerospace and rail.
Developments in computer hardware mean that real time implementation of total focusing method (TFM)-based algorithms such as full matrix capture, plane wave imaging and virtual source aperture are now possible. Each of these algorithms post processes the ultrasonic data to synthesise a PA focus spot at every pixel in an image, giving a fully focussed and easy-to-interpret image.
A range of inspection calibration settings and the ability to save and analyse data following inspection alongside a range of analysis and reporting tools makes the whole inspection and reporting task easier to complete.

The Terrex Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV) is an armoured fighting vehicle developed by ST Engineering and Timoney Technology Ltd. Its Turkish variant, the Yavuz, is built by Turkish automaker Otokar together with ST Kinetics (a subset of ST Engineering). It weighs an estimated 25 to 30 tonnes on an 8x8 wheeled chassis with modern armour. Multiple weapon platforms are supported, including both the remote and overhead weapons stations.
