McWay Cove is a canonical location on the Big Sur Coast in California, part of the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. It is famous for its waterfall which, at high tide, falls directly into the ocean. According to Wikipedia, the beach did not exist until 1983 and is formed by debris from a large landslide. Until then, the waterfall fell into the ocean all the time.

What attracted me to this car was it's original faded creamy yellow color. As I danced around it I saw it's nice faux wood grain and exquisite rust and how nicely it was nestled between neutral colored vehicles. But using a vehicle as my main element in an image didn't sit well with me.
That is until I saw Ray Metzker's 'Automagic' images utilizing cars as the forefront element of composition.
Sliders Sunday - HSS! This began life as an image of a small Swedish crystal paperweight, laser cut on the inside with a Seal. Some HDR work, a few changes to the Dynamic Range, added some sparkle then, blended it with an image of a vibrant sky. Finally, some stars/planets and a lone aircraft appeared ... automagically ..!
SOOC Image Straight Out Of Camera!! NO editing, tweaking, or color processing of ANY kind. Only framed & titled in Photoshop..
The stunning sky on fire ringing in the end of the day with the ring of the fiery sun. It silhouetted my neighbor's home and the trees around our property. The masts of sailboats in the marina stood silent, in awe of the patterns in the firelit sky, but ready to sail.
The Nikond D300 captured this unedited, unprocessed, JPG at 1/1250 second f/18.0 ISO 200 and exposure bias of -1.33 for the pure darkness of the silhouettes but still managing to capture the tree branch crossing in front of the sun. A part of the branches seems to crown the sun even as it bows out for the night.

PS... how do I run a panoramic viewer here on flickr? Thanks for any tips.
3-24-2022 ... was told by an Open Sim user that flickr automagically rotates these 360 panoramic shots... hmm... I might be doing something wrong with the latest Firestorm viewer update then. Maybe flickr takes PNGs for the autorotation? This one is a JPEG file I edited slightly in Gimp.

Here is a good tip for you when it comes to sunsets. It also works if you have something in the center worthy of attention, which is commonly the case with sunsets.
When you use a wide-angle lens, like this 14-24, you will automagically get a feeling that everything is pointed to the middle. That is obvious, but you can "help the cause" and make the effect more pronounced by doing the following. If the there are repeating elements of roughly the same size (in this case: 1- slats of a dock and 2- blobs of clouds), then those elements will create leading lines to the horizon as they get logarithmically smaller towards the infinity point. In a sense, the slats only do part of the job, but the clouds do the rest of the job. Then, this allows you to have leading lines that take people in and out and back around the work.
So, one thing to look for when shooting with the wide angle lens is multiple objects of roughly the same shape. After that, you can try to set up so they repeat ever smaller towards the horizon.
This particular photo was taken in Ibiza one evening, just after the sun dipped into the Mediterranean.

#3 in Explore. Thanks everyone :)
I've been driving through the countryside I know the best, villages near my grandparent's place, for quite a number of years now. It never gets boring, there's always some new take on a familiar sight.
This time, I was testing a compact camera I've had for more than a decade, yet I've never used it. It's Soligor branded soap-bar autofocus camera with a reasonably wide 30mm lens. Not the best lens out there, but again, reasonably good for an inexpensive camera.
Taken with Soligor AF-34 compact film camera, with its 30mm F4.5 lens, on Kodacolor 200 film. The camera did everything automagically, I just pointed it, and shot.
Scanned with Plustek OpticFilm 8100 dedicated film scanner, using VueScan 9.5.
I spent two nights in the Lybrook Badlands. The first night I was at the northern area just west of the tower mesa. Then I drove down to the place west of Counselor. This photo, taken with the quadcopter, was taken there. The shadow structure in the sky is due to cloud shadows in the west being projected eastward. (The air continues to have smoke from the west coast forest fires.) These could be called anticrepuscular rays, I guess.
The onboard GPS information is imbedded in the image file, and flickr uses that to place the location on the map, automagically.

Granny is positive the new project at work will prove to be her death knell. But not right away. First she will suffer – really suffer. There will be impossible deadlines, public speaking anxiety, test defects galore, surprise requirements, promised functionality that never quite appears, and outlandish expectations for automagical solutions. Granny will be expected to herd the scowling and yowling cats comprised of exhausted system users and testers, balky system architects, deaf programmers, ephemeral temporary help, and demanding managers. And, somehow, once again, in six months the project will be completed, memories of the pain will fade, and it will be back to “what have you done for me lately?” Then, Granny thinks, she will be at her end. Well . . . maybe one more project. THEN the end.

Day Ninety, "On the Go" theme, first shot.
This month I'll be traveling a lot and I won't be able to bring my large 17" macbook along for the usual post production of the RX-1 raw files. Hence, I decided I'll spend this month focusing on "On the Go" photography, meaning I'll shoot jpeg and do my postproduction with nothing else than an iPad or an iPhone.
Here's a landscape of Tuscany (landscapes are automagically stitched together by the RX-1, but come out solely as jpeg).
Postproduced with Snapseed on iPad.
Here's the roof of Facebook headquarters! I took this photo last year when I was there doing a private photo walk through that rooftop garden with fun peeps from FB. I'll be back next week! The main reason for my trip to San Francisco is to raise some money for a nonprofit connected to Burning Man, but I'll also be visiting: Netflix, Google, YouTube, Adobe, and I'm excited to see the new Peak Design store! Send me a note if you happen to be at one of those places and we can have a hello! As for this photo of the FB roof, I'm looking forward to getting a new one with the Mavic 2 zoom. I just bought one and it has this cool new feature where it zooms in to 48mm and takes a panorama automagically.

Our new Point and Shoot digital camera, for when I don't feel like lugging out a massive bag of gear.
Our last point and shoot (our old trusty Canon S400) got stolen a few months back. This is it's replacement... I bought the leather case and got a SanDisk Ultra II 2GB SD memory card for it. I will also be ordering another battery because the IS while really nice does eat up battery quickly.
The Canon SD800 IS, and while it doesn't do RAW, and it doesn't do full-manual operation it does take amazing photos and seems to almost without fail choose the right flash power automagically. Furthermore the built in optical IS is wonderful, why they build P&S without it is beyond me. For a really compact digital camera this is it for me...
Photo Tech Info: Photo taken with my Canon 20D on a mini tripod with a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. Camera was placed on a white sheet of paper to function as a background. A Canon 580EX flash w/ STO-FEN OmniBounce was fired wirelessly off-shoe via the Canon ST-E2 transmitter.
This little Crab Spider (Thomisidae) has a Bee Fly (order Bombyliidae, Diptera) for prey on a flower of native Sawtooth Goldenbush (Hazardia squarrosa, Asteraceae). It's a pretty brutal scene. I believe the unfortunate fly is a Sinuous Bee Fly (Hemipenthes sinuosa, Villini) or kin. What's bad for the fly is good for the spider! The spiders are doing their job of picking off the last of the pollinators as the last flowers fade. Arachtober 27. (San Marcos Pass, 27 October 2016)
D'oh, I just noticed that my software settings have automagically changed and I've been saving at a much lower JPEG compression value than normal. No wonder my files are so small! I suppose I should go back and redo everything for the last two days (when it happened). Maybe a week from Tuesday. Flickr or our internet connection has been so pokey tonight that it's just as well I had smaller files to upload!
I do hope rain is coming. We've had some sprinkles this afternoon, and we have a 90% chance of real rain tonight. We're under a NWS Flash Flood Watch. The trees will be so happy!
