Auto Parts shop on the road to Mandalay, the former royal capital in northern Myanmar (formerly Burma) on the Irrawaddy River. Seems the several hangers-on arrived by bicycle and there's just one customer in the shop. Lots of Myanmar history between then and now! This is a scanned transparency resuscitated in Luminar 4 and Topaz (maybe too much), but, hey, it's fun! 21.994, 96.094

Die Kaufhof-Hochgarage in Köln wurde 1956/57 von Hermann Wunderlich und Reinhold Klüser errichtet als Erweiterung des bestehenden Kaufhof-Baus von Wilhelm Kreis aus den Jahren 1913/14 .
Sie besticht durch funktionale Form und die als Rotunde ausgebildete Rampe.
Zum glasummantelten Treppenhaus im Inneren der Wendelrampe findet man den Zugang nur versteckt. Beleuchtet durch reichlich indirektes Tageslicht, lässt es keinen Vergleich mit der üblichen Trostlosigkeit der Parkhaus-Ausgänge zu.

Am Sonntag kam mir bei Jesteburg bereits 232 535 der WFL mit einem dieser Aushubzüge entgegen, und da ich über diese Zugkonstellation etwas überrascht war, stellte ich eine kurze Recherche an und stellte dabei fest, dass diese Leistung von Hamburg-Harburg nach Stolberg scheinbar nicht einmalig verkehrt ist. Und da ich vorher noch nie wirklich an der Rollbahn war, wollte ich dorthin um mir die Strecke mal näher anschauen zu können.
Nach einiger Warterei erblickte ich aus meinem Auto heraus dann eine altrote 232, und innerlich wuchs die Freude, da ich fest mit einer weiß-roten ex EWR-232 gerechnet hatte. Also rauf auf die Leiter, und dabei stellte ich dann fest dass der Zug in die Ausweiche fuhr. Ein ICE wollte noch vorbei, bevor es dann für oben benannten Zug weiter seinem Ziel entgegen ging, und die Lok beschleunigte mit eindrucksvollem Sound den schweren Zug in Richtung Osnabrück.
Mittlerweile weiß man ja gar nicht mehr, was man noch sagen darf. Ich stehe mitten in einer Landschaft, die berückend schön ist ... genieße sie aus tiefstem Herzen, und weiß, dass nicht weit entfernt von mir Flüchtlinge die grüne Grenze überschreiten, getrieben von einem entsetzlichen Bürgerkrieg, von Hunger und Not. Ich frage mich, warum die Weltgemeinschaft diesem Elend kein Ende setzt.
Manchmal glaube ich, ist der Mensch gefangen in dem Bereich von Dunkelheit und Licht. Unser Gemüt kann es so düster umwehen ... lang und anhaltend. Und wie sehr freut es dann das Herz, Boten des Lichts zu sehen ...
Eigentlich streben wir alle zum Licht - warum dann so viel Elend auf dieser Welt?

🇫🇷 Le lac est une destination touristique qui attire pour la couleur bleu intense de ses eaux claires et pour le paysage naturel dans lequel il est plongé. En fait, le lac est entouré sur trois côtés par des pics dolomitiques, dont le Croda del Becco.
La propriétaire de notre gite nous avait prévenus : des touristes qui la veille étaient arrivés vers midi ont dû faire demi-tour, plus d’emplacement pour parquer la voiture…. Pas de problème pour nous, arrivée à 09h00, après une bonne heure et demie de voiture.
C’est le point de départ de randonnées, mais aussi tout simplement le tour du Lac (un peu plus de 3,5 km soit 1h1/4, mais ce sera plus long pour nous, prises de nombreuses photos.
A l’arrivée après avoir contourné l’hôtel, nous avons choisi la rive située à notre droite…en raison de l’exposition au soleil, qui s’est avérée plus facile que la rive opposée de dénivelée faible mais très intense sur quelques passages.
🇩🇪 Der See ist ein touristisches Ziel, das wegen der tiefblauen Farbe seines klaren Wassers und der natürlichen Landschaft, in die er eingebettet ist, anzieht. Tatsächlich ist der See auf drei Seiten von Dolomitengipfeln umgeben, zu denen auch der Croda del Becco gehört.
Die Besitzerin unseres Ferienhauses hatte uns gewarnt: Touristen, die am Vortag gegen Mittag angekommen waren, mussten umkehren, kein Platz mehr, um das Auto zu parken..... Kein Problem für uns, Ankunft um 09:00 Uhr, nach gut eineinhalb Stunden Autofahrt.
Hier ist der Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen, aber auch für die einfache Umrundung des Sees (etwas mehr als 3,5 km oder 1h1/4, aber für uns wird es länger dauern, und wir machen viele Fotos.
Bei der Ankunft, nachdem wir das Hotel umrundet hatten, wählten wir das Ufer zu unserer Rechten... wegen der Sonneneinstrahlung, die sich als leichter herausstellte als das gegenüberliegende Ufer mit einem geringen Höhenunterschied, der aber auf einigen Abschnitten sehr intensiv war.

Il proprietario del nostro gite ci aveva avvertito: alcuni turisti che erano arrivati verso mezzogiorno il giorno prima erano dovuti tornare indietro perché non c'era posto per parcheggiare le loro auto.... Nessun problema per noi, che siamo arrivati alle 9 del mattino dopo un'ora e mezza di viaggio.
Questo è il punto di partenza per diverse escursioni, oltre che per un semplice giro del lago (poco più di 3,5 km, o 1h1/4, ma per noi ci è voluto più tempo, e abbiamo scattato molte foto.
All'arrivo, dopo aver fatto il giro dell'hotel, abbiamo scelto la sponda alla nostra destra... per via dell'esposizione al sole, che si è rivelata più facile della sponda opposta, poco ripida ma molto intensa in alcuni tratti.

The owner of our gite had warned us: some tourists who had arrived around midday the day before had to turn back because there was no place to park their car.... No problem for us, arriving at 9am after a good hour and a half's drive.
This is the starting point for a number of hikes, as well as a simple tour of the lake (just over 3.5 km, or 1h1/4, but it took longer for us, and we took lots of photos.
On arrival, after going round the hotel, we chose the bank to our right... because of the sun exposure, which proved easier than the opposite bank, which was not very steep but very intense on some sections.
🇪🇸 El lago es un destino turístico que atrae a los visitantes por el intenso color azul de sus aguas cristalinas y por el paisaje natural en el que está inmerso. De hecho, el lago está rodeado por tres lados de picos dolomíticos, entre ellos la Croda del Becco.
El propietario de nuestra casa rural nos había avisado: algunos turistas que habían llegado hacia el mediodía del día anterior tuvieron que dar media vuelta porque no había sitio para aparcar sus car.... Para nosotros no supuso ningún problema, ya que llegamos a las 9 de la mañana tras una hora y media de viaje en coche.
Este es el punto de partida de varias excursiones, así como de una simple vuelta al lago (algo más de 3,5 km, o 1h1/4, pero a nosotros nos llevó más tiempo, e hicimos muchas fotos).
A la llegada, después de dar la vuelta al hotel, elegimos la orilla de la derecha... por la exposición al sol, que resultó más fácil que la orilla opuesta, poco empinada pero muy intensa en algunos tramos.

A solo ex-GM&O GP38-2 leads a train of Ford frames and 86-footers through the famous DT&I "arches", a remnant of Henry Ford's electrification project in the 1920s, on its way to the sprawling Rouge Complex in Dearborn.
From the "we didn't know how good we had it" files...a former Conrail SD60M in fresh YN2 paint leads a solid set of then-new Kansas City Southern Auto-Max auto racks at CP 7 in Bogota, NJ on the River Sub. The uniform cars and clean power give the appearance of a publicity photo, but it was basically a case of dumb luck for me. The Gunderson Auto-Max cars were built starting in 1999 and if I recall correctly the started showing up on the River Line around the time of this photo. I believe they were unloaded at Ridgefield Heights Auto Terminal, as their 20'2" height restricted their use further south. The new third track between CP 7 and CP 10 was in place but not yet in use at the time of this photo. While it was sad to see Conrail blue disappear, I have to admit these SD60Ms did look good in a coat of clean YN2 paint!

I guess our automobiles have goten so reliable that we no longer need mechanics. They change the oil, rotate our tires, fill the window washer. We never see the mechanic. We park our car in the reception area, and then wait, and wait until our car suddenly reappears. It’s a secret what they do back there, do they actually do all those things on the check list? Of course its not that easy you will be confronted by the service manager to get your keys back. Your transmission fluid is looking milky, Your due for a 50,000 mile check up. Your cabin air filer needs replacing. My head is spinning.
