It's been nearly a year since I began the visa process for L. A FREAKIN' YEAR. Still waiting. We don't have a date yet for the consulate interview, but it seems to be a few weeks away.
I'm not trimming my beard these days. I say that I've decided not to cut the beard until the visa happens, but really I'm just lazy. That, and I know that L will give me shit if I let it grow too scruffy, so this is my last chance to look like a homeless person-- until such time as I actually do become a homeless person.
I mostly only wear my baseball cap (Astros) at work. The lighting in the room is awful, and if I don't sheild my eyes from the glare, they get fried. I've had someone comment that it's odd that I put my cap on when I'm inside a building and take it off when I go outside.
I've also had near strangers come up to be and start talking baseball, saying teasing things about "you guys" being in second place, or admiring comments about some player I had barely heard of. At first I had no idea what they were talking about. Then I realized they were commenting on the Astros cap. This never happened when I wore the cap when I lived in Hong Kong.
I mostly just like the Astros logo, and I'm from Houston. But it's just a cap (and an eye saver at work), not a tribal emblem.
In the photo I'm wearing a polo shirt. I almost always wear polo shirts because they're comfortable, and they don't need ironing. But L says I dress like crap. I will trim my beard when she gets here. But I shall always dress like crap-- because I can. But if I could ever lose some weight, I'd at least start tucking the shirt in. I would also probably go back to wearing Oxford shirts. I think in that case L might not think I look so crappy.
But she loves me whether I look crappy or not.
I want the visa.
[The visa finally came through, and L arrived in July 2009, 18 months after we were married.]
Funny, really - he makes the best coffe in the world. Check it out on your map. It is far away from the nearest coffe plant.
Users that want to access the internet without going through the company proxy can use this computer.
It's mostly used to download the otherwise blocked MP3s.
last week I was photographing a community business dinner and musical evening. While there, I received a small commission to photograph the lead band for their promotion company!
yay. I work cheap because I can't guarantee results. I am considering picking up adobe elements 6 as I don't have the time to learn photoshop (and likely won't for another 2 years) but some refinements would go a long way and it is supposed to be user friendly.

The day before school returned and on our last day of our lovely few days in Glengarriff I got to spent a lovely morning with Mianra Soap Makers as part of my "At Work" series.
It was such an interesting morning and great to Hajni at last, a lovely lady, fabulous soaps.
