Regno Unito, East Sussex, Seaford Head, Primavera 2013

The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk cliffs by the English Channel in East Sussex, between the towns of Seaford and Eastbourne and they are the remnants of dry valleys in the chalk South Downs, which are gradually being eroded by the sea. The Seven Sisters cliffs are occasionally used in filmmaking and television production as a stand-in for the more famous White Cliffs of Dover, since they are relatively free of anachronistic modern development and are also allowed to erode naturally. They are also featured at the beginning of the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and at the end of the film Atonement where Robbie and Cecilia always wanted to live. An east-facing photo of the Seven Sisters is included as one of the default landscape wallpapers packaged with Microsoft Windows 7.

Jerusalem, Yom Kippur 5780 יוֹם כִּפּוּר

At sundown ...

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is obsereved on the Jewish calendar date of 10 Tishrei, 5780.

Yom Kippur 2019 is observed from sunset of Tuesday, October 8th, through nightfall of Wednesday, October 9th, 2019.

The shofar is an ancient musical horn made of ram's horn, used for Jewish religious purposes. Like the modern bugle, the shofar lacks pitch-altering devices. All pitch control is done by varying the player's embouchure. The shofar is blown in synagogue services on Rosh Hashanah and at the very end of Yom Kippur, and is also blown every weekday morning in the month of Elul, running up to Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

Day 300...surreal. So this is what it feels like to be on the homestretch...it feels good. :)

I was in bed all day long feeling terrible last week. I was watching Atonement and was suddenly inspired to get dressed and drive to the cliffs. I haven't watched a movie at home in ages...I forgot how inspiring beautiful cinematography can be.

I went to the closed off part of the cliffs again to shoot this. High tide threw off my original plans to get in the water...probably for the best since I was sick as a dog. It was kind of scary making my way along the edge of the cliff with the waves crashing over them like this.

The bigger the risk, the bigger the pay off. This project has given me a thick spine...almost nothing in nature intimidates me anymore.

I'm feeling much better and I have a handful of pictures to get through. Expect more soon. :)

Wake Up

And it feels like the world has taken a shot of adrenaline

Abruptly aware of the maltreatment that comes with melanin

Marching in solidarity as atonement for lack of clarity

Like the veil has been lifted and they finally see the disparity we're subjected to

Everywhere on the daily

How we're baptised in disrespect and austerity

What took you so long for us to finally be believed like we haven't been screaming?

For the justice of those who survived the fire of Grenfell building

For our siblings who are harassed for minding their business

For this country to stop white-washing its history

Bring light to the British Empire's atrocities

There's so much that's constantly left out of the story

There can't be a happy ending until we all wake up

People who treat others as inferior are those who themselves suffer from a sense of inferiority and insecurity. Others are a threat to them because they don’t have a sense of being important to the eternal God. They don’t have the assurance that this God will look after them more than adequately. When we lose sight of our identity in Christ, lesser identifying features, like race, class, caste, and education, become significant. We try to find our identity by acting more significant than others. - Ajith Fernando

"Daughter to Father, Daughter to Father, I Don't Know You, But I Still Want To"

In memory of my RL father, born on this day in 1935. Happy Birthday Dad. I hope you found peace with yourself and what you did to this family for so long. May you R.I.P. after you've faced atonement for your deeds on this earth.

In my homeland you can often find small chapels along the roads. They were usually bulit for a vow as atonement or repantance. There were always trees planted on the left and on the right side.

Atonement is the action of making amends for past wrongs or injury, the expiation of sin. It is when we act not from love or for its own sake but from a sense of guilt, a deep sense of needing to balance something we’ve done.

Atonement is the absence of self-forgiveness and is essentially selfish because it includes being ‘caught up’ in our own head space or becoming overly self-absorbed.

Forgiveness on the other hand is about giving ourselves permission to move forward.

Forgiveness does not mean condoning or excusing our own behaviour (or the behaviour of others), but involves accepting the flawed nature of humanity and moving on from the guilt-trap of not letting go.

By forgiving ourselves we create an opportunity to learn from past mistakes and alter our behaviour accordingly, as opposed to simply beating up on ourselves or imagining we can expunge the past.

It is the tree that grows from the black earth.

Having been unsuccessful on raiding the strawberries, Floss now decides it is time to have a stab at a bit of gardening to cover up her earlier activities. Wait until she realises that there is a brown pot with Honey written on it. Hard luck Floss, that is a flower pot as well and there is not any honey to be had.

It is a hard life at times being a bear.

Les Rousses, Jura, 4th of January 2015

Not far from the Swiss border which we shall often cross.

It was on Sunday. "Off season" Sunday.

An "apathetic" snow. Scattered. Just like us. Lost in a blank space which we will fill with our looks eager for big spaces and our internal and cheerful releases. As an abandoned fair by its public we are creating our own merry-go-round going from one merry-go-round to an other merry-go-round.

Most other religions are based on their teachings. Christianity is based on the death of Christ and the Resurrection that attests its efficacy. The idea of the Resurrection was scorned by most people, as the response of the philosophical Athenians to Paul indicates: “When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered” (Acts 17:32). But Christianity has stood the test of time. This is significant because Christianity is the only religion that stands or falls on the truthfulness of an event. Its survival is evidence that its unique basis, the Resurrection, is indeed valid. - Ajith Fernando

Digressing from my chronological uploads here.

Before Christmas I watched the latest Blue Bloods [S11-E03-Atonement] episode and noticed this beautiful bokeh in some parts of the episode.

Which leaves me with the question, as to which lens or lighting technology will produce this patterned bokeh.
