Shown is a vacuum chamber at about 10^{-10} Torr used to shield atoms at about 100 microKelvin - 100 millionths of a degree above absolute zero. A cloud of 50 million rubidium atoms can be seen as a violet irregular shape inside the chamber. Actually the atoms emit light only (for this experiment) in the near infra-red at 780nm, where the human eye is very inefficient. However the CCD on a digital camera is very efficient at this wavelength, so even thought there is an IR filter the atomic cloud can be seen.
Also, the cloud has a density of about 100,000 less than that of air.
Incorporating elements from the crosshair/eye design and the + from the H1 atom-inspired one, I was kind of excited about this one. In the end, it felt too generic, and too much like a bastard child of the other two.

That's either the sun or an atom bomb and I think it's the former. Wish the wind was blowing to the side-like cause that would've made a better photograph methinks.
