The Ariel Atom is a road legal high performance sports car made by the Ariel Motor Company based in Crewkerne, Somerset, England and under licence in North America by TMI Autotech, Inc. at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia.
There have been seven Ariel Atom generations to date: Ariel Atom, Ariel Atom 2, Ariel Atom 3 (including the Ariel Atom 3 Mugen Limited Edition and Honda Racing Edition - of which only 10 of each were made) Ariel Atom 3.5, Ariel Atom 3S, Ariel Spec:Race Atom, and Ariel Atom 500 V8 Limited Edition (only 25 to be made). The current models are the Ariel Atom 3 (US), 3.5, the more powerful 3.5R, the 3S (US), the Spec:Race Atom (US), and the limited production Ariel Atom 500 V8 with a 500 bhp (373 kW; 507 PS) V8 engine
The Ariel Atom features a prominently visible chassis (i.e., an exoskeleton, no roof or windows, a small optional windscreen) and a drag coefficient of 0.40.
The Atom began as a student project by Coventry University transport design student, Niki Smart. Known then as the LSC (Lightweight Sports Car), it was developed at the university in 1996 with input and funding from various automotive industry members, including British Steel and TWR. Ariel Motor Company boss Simon Saunders was a senior lecturer whose responsibility for the project was primarily as financial manager and design critic for Smart, whom he described as "The best all-round design student I've ever seen." The car was first shown publicly at the British International Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham in October 1996.

The past week I spent across the country in California (from SF to LA) working on imagery for Jam Rocket. The following shots are of the up and coming artist Atom & The Bombs. One of the many talents representing a new music venue called Jam Rocket. This location is in Petaluma, CA North of San Francisco in Sonoma County. This parking lot has a history of American music and rockin' culture. It was actually used in the film "American Graffiti" (the scene where the cop car axle was yanked off) Wolfman Jack would howl no doubt. Stay tuned to find out more about Jam Rocket and the opportunity they will provide musicians as the business develops rapidly! Look for more posts of artists portraits in the days to come!

my father was a great scientist, specifically a metallurgical engineer. he passed away 7/22/05 and i got this tattoo a few months ago in his honor. he has 3 patents
One of many "atomic " themed heroes, Captain Atom was originally a character in Charton Comics 1960's super hero lineup, where he basically functioned as their Superman.
In the 80's Dc bought he rights to all of Charlton's super hero characters.They were first intorduced to DC Continuity in their original Charlton forms during the Crisis on Infinite Earths where they were shown to come from an alternate Earth (Earth-4 I think).After the Crisis, their world was merged witht eh other suriving Earths to form what we now call "New Earth" and they were revamped now that DC's writers were allowed to monkey with their histories.
Captian Atom was given a new comic by DC which I used to collect regularly.In my opinion it was very well written, and also very well drawn, at least while Pat Broderick was drawing it.
One clever thing about the series is that they managed to preserve his Charlton stories in the new continuity, but as part of a false history the Government created for the hero. He eventually joins the Justice League and for several years is the leader of it's European divison.
Captian atom has recently been turned into a villian, which I think is a shame, but it's something DC has for some reason (I think mainly because they can't think of what to do with him since his series was cancelled) been itching to do for years, ever since the"Armaggedon 2001"crossover event in 1990, where he was originally supposed to be the villain Monarch, which is who he is now, almost 20 years later.
His greatest legacy may be in acting as the inspiration for the character "Doctor Manhattan" in the classic graphic novel, "the Watchmen" which is set to become a movie next year and looks AMAZING!
