IC 63, also known as "The Ghost of Cassiopeia", is an area of molecular hydrogen clouds and dust located 550 light-years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia.
This region is both an emission nebula and a reflection nebula. The gas and dust in this region are bombarded with radiation from the bright star Navi (which is just out of shot to the top of this picture).
Navi is a Blue-White Giant star; the middle star in the "W" shape made by the constellation. It has a radius that is 14 times larger than our own Sun, while also being 55,000 times more luminous and 19 times more massive. Added to this is the fact that it is only 3 or so light-years away from the nebula. and bathes it in ultraviolet light. This causes the hydrogen gas to glow in the red part of the spectrum. Areas of blue can also be seen, which is due to light reflected from the gas dust in the nebula.
This picture was gathered by the C11 telescope over the course of about 3 hours.

With the Perseid Meteor shower at its peak on 12 August 2024 I set up my camera with an Unleashed controller to take a series of 15-second exposures and hoped that a meteor would show up. One did.
I stacked all 86 photos with 30 darks in AstroPixelProcessor, processed them in PixInsight to bring out the detail of the Milky Way. That of course obliterated the meteor. So I then used Adobe Photoshop to reintroduce the meteor flash. Not ideal, but it shows what happened

Messier 1 is better known as the Crab Nebula. Charles Messier originally mistook Messier 1 for Halley’s Comet, which inspired him to create his famous catalogue of celestial objects that might be mistaken for comets.
The Crab Nebula is an expanding remnant of a star's supernova explosion. Japanese and Chinese astronomers recorded this violent event nearly 1,000 years ago in 1054 AD, as likely did the Native Americans. The glowing relic has been expanding since the star exploded, and it is now approximately 11 light-years in width.
The orange filaments are the tattered remains of the star and consist mostly of hydrogen. The blue in the filaments in the outer part of the nebula represents neutral oxygen. These elements were expelled during the supernova explosion.
A rapidly spinning neutron star (the ultra-dense core of the exploded star) is embedded in the centre of the Crab Nebula. Electrons whirling at nearly the speed of light around the star’s magnetic field lines produce the eerie blue light in the interior of the nebula. The neutron star, like a lighthouse, ejects twin beams of radiation that make it appear to pulse 30 times per second as it rotates.

The Elephant’s Trunk Nebula (IC1396), 05/30/2021
Weirdly last time I took the telescope out camping for the weekend the skies were exceedingly kind to me. The weather was forecast to be cloudy and I almost did not even bring my gear, let alone set it all up once I got on site. But the clouds buggered off so, what the hell, let’s give it a chance. One unfortunate thing however was that this target did not rise from behind the trees until after 12:30am. This totally put the damper on how much partying I got to do with my friends. However, the weather was so good I was able to shoot this object three nights in a row and it ended up being the most time I’ve sunk into a single image so far. I believe that this is the best image I’ve capture yet and it was definitely worth the effort!
The Elephant’s Trunk Nebula is in the constellation Cepheus and is about 2,400 light-years away from your couch. The “trunk” itself is over 20 light-years in size.

A nova in the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) our nearest neighboring large spiral galaxy, dubbed AT2025abao. This object is classified as a luminous red nova (LRN), much fainter than a supernova, but brighter than a classical nova, thought to be caused by the merger of two stars. This image was made on November 21, 2025 from southwestern New Mexico. Compare the inset to an image taken in 2021 where the nova does not appear. Not an impressive image perhaps, but fun to catch a faint transient event that took 2½ million years for the light to reach us.

Man have the skies been clear a lot lately! Prepare for a bunch of images once I get a chance to process them all. First time that has been an issue for me in the PNW.

Stephan's Quintet is a visual grouping of five galaxies of which four form the first compact galaxy group ever discovered. The group is visible in the constellation Pegasus.
Four of these galaxies are about about 300 million light years away. Because of the two dimensional nature of this image, the fifth member (to the left of the middle pair) appears to be with the others; but in fact it is “only” 40 million light years away, so it is not part of the more distant group.
You may recognise these galaxies from the opening scenes of the classic 1946 film, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Imaged with a Fuji X-A1 full spectrum camera and a Takahashi FS102 telescope. This was an early image I did a long time ago but stacked in a new program. Astro Pixel Processor.
After stacking and some processing in APP I finished the image in Photoshop CS3.
Helix Nebula (IC 7293), 09/03/2021
Headed up to my buddy’s property in Orofino Idaho last weekend for some light boozing and shenanigans with a bunch of friends. I took the telescope as well on the off chance there were clear skies, and I wasn’t too far gone to use it. On the first night I was able to capture this before skies and my brain got too hazy to do any more.
This is the Helix Nebula. For obvious reasons it is very often called the “Eye of God” nebula. It is found in the constellation Aquarius and is probably the nearest planetary nebula to our Solar System, located roughly 650 light years away. Based on its size, age and distance it is expanding in size at 19 miles per second. My back of the envelope math estimates that is as fast as traveling to the moon in under 3.5 minutes.

North America Nebula (NGC 7000) and the Cygnus Wall, 07/22/2021
Several weeks ago I set up the telescope in the driveway to work out some issues I was having. I pointed at an object in a region of the sky I could see between the trees for a few hours. I wasn’t thinking I was going to get an image worth sharing but after I processed it, I was pleasantly surprised.
This is part of the North America Nebula (NGC 7000). It is found near the star Deneb in the constellation Cygnus. It is one of the few nebulae that’s distance has been accurately measured. The Gaia astrometry satellite calculated 395 stars within the nebulosity to a precise distance of 2,590 light-years away.
The Cygnus Wall is the W-shaped area along the “East Coast” of the nebula and is a region of concentrated star formation. I think it looks like an eagle in flight from overhead.
