Cacti fire

Young plant, mini flower bud

 

Nativo del: Noreste de México

Cultivado: Zaragoza, España.

Nikon D500, 105.0 mm f/2.8, University of Arizona Arboretum, Tucson, Pima County, AZ, 29 February 2020

11 months old, 0,5-1,2 cm.

 

I sowed them in natural light for the first 4 months, then they went trought the winter rest with no watering at all, and finally on January they have been moved into a growbox with artificial lighting.

 

The soil consists of: pumice and zeolite, both in form of sand and 2-5mm grains, and fine crushed marl.

Left to right and top to bottom: A. myriostigma v. nudum f. variegata - A. myriostigma monstrosa - A. myriostigma v. nudum cv. kikko - A. myriostigma fukuruyu - A. asterias v. nudum variegata - A. onzuka cv. kikko - A. asterias v. nudum cv. kikko - A. myriostigma fukuruyu - A. myriostigma variegata cv. kikko.

The plants come from the collection of Andreas Laras.

My older Astrophytum myriostigma in bloom! I've had this plant for a few years at this point, and it has been in bloom before, but I am always away when it happens... not this time!

It has a nice, fully yellow flower, typical of the species.
