The heroic crew of a Super Scooper firefighting plane make a low pass through heavy smoke on West Mountain in Idaho. They had just dumped water further up the slope and were heading down to the lake to refill by skimming the water in a touch-and-go operation.
Peak Action
During the height of the West Mountain wildfire in August 2025, several Super Scoopers and helicopters shuttled relentlessly from Lake Cascade, dropping load after load of scooped water on the flames. Usually, multiple scoopers arced up and around the mountain while helicopters retreated to reload, alternating to maintain safe separation in the crowded airspace. This rare frame captures the exception: for a split second, a Scooper and helicopter shared the same turbulent, smoky corridor.
Fire Timeline
The Rock Fire ignited from lightning strikes on August 12, 2025 evening, just south of Tamarack Resort along Lake Cascade's steep timbered west shore. It exploded in size to roughly 2,743 acres about a week after this shot, forcing Tamarack to halt operations. The fire reached full containment on September 2, 2025, after burning a final 2,844 acres.
Response Scale
Ground crews peaking near 900 firefighters and support staff battled alongside aerial assets that included helicopters dropping over 1,145 buckets of water, multiple Super Scoopers, and fixed-wing tankers, all carving through smoke to protect homes and infrastructure.
2025 Fire Season
2025 marked an exceptionally busy wildfire year across North America, with over 50 large fires active nationwide in late August alone amid widespread lightning outbreaks. Idaho saw multiple blazes sparked around the same storm systems, including the Rock Fire among several near Tamarack and larger ones like Island Creek. Canada endured a record-shattering season with 6,125 fires burning over 21 million acres -- more than double the 10-year average -- fueled by persistent drought and heat.

Hey, Wally, I hear you got a new government job.
Yeah, it's great! I get to meet all kinds of interesting and smart people.
Yeah? Like who?
Like all kinds. I met Putin the other day.
Yeah? Isn't he a total thug, killer and creep?
No way! He was really cool! Said all kinds of nice things about me!
And so you think. . . what?
To me, if he says nice things, that's a real asset.
And that affects how you perform your job?
Yeah! He even gave me tips about emptying the trash! Makes sweeping up at the White House a lot easier.
I can totally see how it would.
I know, right?
Dune Grass catches a breeze on a foggy and overcast day at the beach. It's been a bummer of a week here for those who rented vacation cottages along the ocean. Nothing but Rain, Fog, and overcast the entire week. Hope your weekend is good.
Well, maybe not stranded but lots of mostly SD70MAC units stored at Donkey Creek due to the steady decline in coal traffic.
Conrail Shared Assets WPCA-20 shakes the windows along 3rd Street in Moorestown, NJ on a daily basis. In fact, it is the only train to shake the windows here anymore.
Rebuilt EMD SD30C-ECO 1707 and standard SD40-2 8828 had Conrail Shared Assets train CA-11 northbound at Five Points, New Jersey under blue skies.
1707 was originally a Seaboard Coast Line SD40-2 while the 8828 was built for Conrail.
While chasing the LSRC business train I saw a post that CP train 651 was in Windsor and had the 7021 and 7018 for power with a recrew already on duty. It was a easy decision for us to break off and head to the Wabash to wait. What we didn't know was that Conrail Shared Assets had an outage with the mainline at Delray shut down for 5 hours and sure enough 651 arrived right in the middle of that. After burning a couple hours of good sunlight by rotting away at West Detroit 651 finally got moving and made it to Milan with the sun 98% down the center of the track. So our original nice broad side shot was a no go and had to go for a head on shot resulting in this for me.

Another in my Asset Series. There is really no explaining. I just like it because it looks super weird.
Theme for Me Again Monday: How Weird is Weird Enough
Day 308 - It's not until I started gathering things together for this that I realized I have very little of great monetary value - which suits me fine. The handbag isn't even a label - it's secondhand and for theatrical purposes only. I would have included my camera, but alas, it was needed else where. Oh and my husband should've been in there too of course!
Unfortunately, I am eating everything in sight right now..this has got to stop. I get little snippets of will power and resolve but they only last a day or so.
Good news...I have healed the slipped disk in my neck enough to have started running again. Also played my first soccer game in two months. Whoot! Great to be back at it.

With a challenge like that, how could I resist??
Heads up - this is the first of a series of photos that I took today that will comprise my "Asset" series. Hee Hee Hee
