It was around sunset when I took these and I forgot to take my circular polarizer off as it was getting darker. It made for some VERY deep colors even though it was stunning enough on it's own. Might have to go back up tomorrow and take some without the polarizer just to see how they are different.

Autumn Color with Aspens turning - along Kebler Pass road west of Crested Butte, Colorado. This area contains one of the largest Aspen forests in the world. The summit of Kebler Pass is 10007 feet and most of the road is dirt and is closed in winter.

.....always remember to close your camera bag while it is not attended. I made a quick lens change and walked away from my camera bag and tripod to check out some different angles. While about 20 yards away from my open bag, with my 24-105 with no rear lens cap inside, the wind blew large clumps of snow from the trees right onto my open camera bag. It took the rest of the afternoon to dry out my 24-105. Lesson learned!

A small herd of mule deer just disappeared into the aspen trees !

I love living in Colorado....you just never know what you will see next !

Aspen Forest outside Santa Fe, New Mexico

Well I decided to get up at 2:30 am and drive up to Aspen, Colorado and chek out the sunrise at Maroon Lake. I showed up right around 7:00 am to find about 50 other photographers there. Was hoping for a calm lake to get a reflection but had no luck. Tried to add a log to the composition to make it stand out, not sure if I like it.

Anyways had a great time and meet some nice people. Hope to come back next fall a few days earlier and spend the day here.

The San Juan Mountains are a spectacular experience during the autumn months. The endless aspen groves produce a bright pallet of golden colors beneath rugged snow capped mountains.

October was the right time of year to see the fall colors of the aspen groves in the Eastern Sierra. 395 is one of my favorite highways, and runs along the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada. This shot was taken Just southwest of the ghost town of Bodie, and just north a Mono Lake, looking west.

This Aspen grove is located in Rocky Mountain National Park. Captured last fall.

These were taken with the Sony Nex 5 on a black & white setting which also captures any yellow in the image.
