Article Text:

"More and more people are becoming addicted to "mucking about in boats" and two men who have been bitten by the bug in a big way are Hare Street garage manager Mr. Len Thomsett and his foreman Mr. Steve Allman. Since Easter of last year the lights have been burning until mid-night almost every evening at the premises of Newmarket Motors as Mr. Thomsett and Mr. Allman toiled away at their project - the building of a Bermudan sloop 24ft. 6in. in length and with an 8ft. beam.

Their progress has been watched with considerable interest by the villagers, not least by the 22 men who man-handled the hull which then weighed about 11/2 tons from the workshop where work began to Newmarket Motors' main garage.

When an Observer representative was shown over the yacht by its two creators it looked somewhat out of its element in a corner of the garage but still a thing of great beauty. Of "Yachting World's" Eventide class, it has a 30ft. mast and is equiped with an auxilary engine. The yacht has a double mahogany skin and four full berths. Its modern navigational equipment includes an echo depth sounder.

Mr. Thomsett, who valued the craft at about £2,250, told the Observer that during the course of construction he and Mr. Allman used 9,000 rivets and 63 gross of brass screws.

In the near future the yacht is to be taken to Rye House for launching after which it will be taken by way of the River Lee and River Thames to the Heybridge yacht basin. In July Mr. Thomsett and Mr. Allman, whose previous boat building experience was confined to two small sailing dinghies [plan to] take the yacht to [Holland for a] well earned holiday."

Not really sexy, but practice, easy to use, to share ... and this section is not over yet :)

Polish designer and teacher Ewa Satalecka interviewed José and Veronika for the design magazine 2+3D. The six-page article covers questions about long-distance collaboration and the way of designing type faces together. It also shows some very nice examples of various available TT typefaces. Erratum, unfortunately the publisher did not properly mark the poster showing Edita, as being designed by Pilar Cano, and apologises for the mistake.

Thanks to the help of several Hungarian speakers, I could make up what is described in this article from 1930. So, here it what it says:

Béla Klein was sitting in a café when a High ranking officer, Denes Dobak (accompanied by other soldiers), who was also in this café, asked a band of gypsies to play an antisemitic song called "Erger Berger" Here is how a website refers to this song: ""Erger,

Berger, Sósberger, minden zsidó gazember" (Erger, Berger, Sósberger, all jews are thugs.)"

Béla Klein, my grandfather, and also a 36-months WWI verteran who is told to have earned several medals, ordered the band to stop "because there are jews here" (my note: he was Jewish as demonstrated by the other documents posted in this set). The officer told my grandfather to go outside to settle the matter. A far-right journalist (Laszlo Zsolnai-Grosz) who was present struck my grandfather's head (who bled as a consequence). My grandfather reacted by suing him and by challenging the officer to a duel (as was customary when offences involved soldiers). The officer accepted and Bela eventually won the duel (both protagonists came out slightly wounded). They left together. The trial against the journalist was yet to take place at the time of the writing of this article.

Other info:

"I will try to answer your questions, although my Hungarian is limited.

Klein was at the table with a woman, but no name or relationship is mentioned. THere are no dates mentioned in this article and some of it is hard to read, but I have to believe this happened in the early 40's. It does not say where he he was stationed or which front he was on.

The motive for the fight is unclear, this part I don't really understand but to the best of my ability this is what happened, A song was being sung and a high ranking officer said to stop singing it because there are jews here. After someone asked Klein to step outside of the bar for a moment and thats when he was attacked.

He did fight back and both parties were bloodied, the two officers were made to shake hands and left the premises peacefully but another involved who was a civilian was going to press charges against the military. Sorry. But I hope this explains something to you.

Klein said to stop the music, because there are jews there. Maybe he tought himself.(Sorry I understand the hungarian text, but I can't very well English:)

The song was the cuse of the fight and a bickering with the officer.

It is basically about a fight in a bar between Klein Bela and another sargent in the army.

It says Klein was a sargent in the army and was a reservist, but had been at the front for 36 months and had been awarded several medals for his service.

Hope this helps.

It is reported that a 12-year-old boy died yesterday due to Nipah virus infection in Kozhikode, Kerala. The samples of the boy were tested at Pune National Institute of Virology & Nipah infection was confirmed.

As per information, fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are the natural host of Nipah virus, through their saliva. As such, treatment or vaccine is not available for either humans or animals. The primary treatment is only supportive care & fatality rate is estimated at 40% to 75%.

The infection exhibits wide range of clinical presentations, from asymptomatic infection (subclinical) to acute respiratory infection & fatal encephalitis. Since, the signs & symptoms are nonspecific, we might miss the initial cases & this can play havoc in spreading the disease before we identify it. The symptoms of Nipah infection, bird flu & swine flu are quite similar.

The incubation period is known to range from 4 to 14 days normally & even extended to 45 days. Survivors of acute encephalitis are prone for prolonged neurologic complications, including seizures, personality changes etc. In few cases, relapse or delayed onset of encephalitis also is reported.

Symptoms include fever, headaches, muscle pain, vomiting & sore throat, followed by dizziness, drowsiness, altered consciousness, or neurological signs that indicate acute encephalitis. Some people also experience atypical pneumonia & severe respiratory problems, including acute respiratory distress. Encephalitis & seizures occur in severe cases, progressing to coma within 24 to 48 hours.

Diagnostic tools used are RT-PCR from bodily fluids & detection of antibodies through immunosorbent assay (ELISA), in addition to cell culture. Culling of infected animals & cautioned burial, incineration of carcasses are preferred to reduce the risk of transmission to people, once we identify the source.

Personal protective measures should be worn while handling patients, sick animals, or their tissues, without fail. Regular hand washing should be carried out if you are caring or visiting sick people.

TAILPIECE: As there is no cure, awareness is the only way out to prevent the deadly disease. Again, care should be taken to avoid usage of palm sap & other fresh & birds bitten food products. Avoid consumption of unpasteurized fruit juices or partly eaten fruits. Freshly collected palm juice should be boiled & fruits thoroughly washed & peeled before consumption. Doctor can cure the disease, but only a great doctor can cure the cause.

When the early short-wheelbase BMW /5 bikes were equipped with high and wide handlebars, or windshields and luggage, the wind on the upright rider or shield, and the weight on the rear, lightened the front end enough to cause wobbles at high speed as described in this article from 1971.
