人物简介
大龙 原名菲利普·麦克马斯特，年龄保密，来自加拿大蒙特利尔北部的山区，独立环保人士。因为喜欢中国，他给自己取名大龙。他是电视纪录片白求恩的扮演者，但这只是他中国生活的很小一部分。他还有很多头衔，商务可持续发展麦克马斯特学院的首席研究员及创始人，加拿大蒙特利尔大学HEC商学院MBA教授，香港中文大学MBA教授，中科院客座研究员。
如果有一天，你在街边碰到一个留着大胡子的高鼻梁老外，他或许还穿着一身有点破旧的八路军军装，冲着你伸出三根手指头说“经济社会环境”或“天、地、人”，你可千万别感到意外。和他一起合张影吧，记得以后每次照相时，伸出你的三根手指头，而不是俗套的“剪刀手”，加入大龙的行动一起来保护地球。
为什么是三根指头？大龙掰着食指、中指和无名指，逐个念着“经济、社会、环境”或是“天、地、人”，每一根指头代表其中一个词，只有三者平衡，世界才会可持续发展。他懂的中文不多，这几个词却发音准确，因为常挂嘴边。
多年来，大龙一直致力于可持续发展这一世界性重大课题，发起了世界“和平+1”可持续发展项目。2008年，大龙把自己进行可持续发展事业的办公室设在北京。他相信，中国人有以“天地人和”为基础的传统文化，一旦行动就可改变世界。
“八路”背着公仔宣传公益
初次见到大龙，他背着一个破了口的大包，身穿八路军军装和白裤子，头戴八路军军帽，大把的络腮胡子遮住了他大半个脸。他会先从手机里翻出照片告诉你，他曾在电视里扮演过白求恩。
他会让你注意军帽上排成三角形的三颗黑色小纽扣，这是他接下来要讲的重点。随后，他从包里翻出了“三指理念”的海报和他的小伙伴——两只已经不怎么白的一大一小熊猫公仔和一只肚皮破了线的小黄鸭公仔。熊猫是中国的象征，而鸭子则代表着快乐，缺一不可，它们陪着大龙走过很多地方，已被无数人拥抱过。
熊猫原本胖嘟嘟的上肢，被大龙戴上了白手套，而手套也被做成了三指手势。
大龙喜欢让你抱着熊猫或鸭公仔，和他一起做“三指手势”，大声喊出“天地人和”，如果碰到的是和他一样的老外，他更愿意喊“经济社会环境平衡”，因为西方的文化理解这个口号。他会带着相机，随时随地收集世界各地的人摆出的三指姿势，并在网络上传播和分享。
三指手势又被称为“和平+1”可持续手势。在北京定居的7年里，每结识一个人，大龙都会伸出三个指头，和你聊一聊经济社会环境平衡，他会告诉你，每个人都有责任和义务停止继续污染环境。“我很高兴地看到，许多中国公民付诸行动。”
执着的环保宣传者
大龙说，“三指理念”开始于2006年。那时他正在香港中文大学教授MBA，课程内容是经济、社会和环境。但他发现，很多学生不理解这三个词之间的意义。“我需要去引导他们理解其中的含义，理解三者的平衡。”
大龙研究中国文化，把他的可持续发展理念和中国的传统文化相结合，这样就会更容易让中国人理解。现在的大龙，知道“一生二，二生三、三生万物”，老子、孔子、太极、阴阳平衡不离嘴边。
作为白求恩的扮演者，他把白求恩精神和他的可持续发展理念捆绑在一起，经常在很多场合穿着这身八路军军装出镜。他也和很多明星合影，让明星和他一起摆出三指姿势。
菲利斯在一次活动上认识了大龙，接触多了，菲利斯感受到了大龙做公益环保背后的辛酸。大龙生活简单，经常一天只吃一顿饭，“他没有挣钱的概念，所有心思都在三指项目上，那是他的价值。他的厕所墙壁写满他的计划，房间堆满各种书稿，与他见面聊的都是他的可持续理念。他的执着和乐观超乎常人。”
大龙的周三倡议
为了让大家行动起来，大龙发起周三倡议，周三是每周中间的一天，他希望大家不妨就在这一天做些小小的努力：学会微笑、尝试改变和拔掉插头节约用电。
大龙说，挑选一件事在周三来做一个改变，比如把那些暂时不必被插上的插头一个个拔掉，减少碳排放量。又比如关掉手机三小时，忘记QQ、微信、微博，走出去交朋友。再比如，爱吃肉的你，这一天就吃素吧。“小事情不断重复地做，你就会发现改变。”

Father's Day and a birthday in the last 3 days - he has certainly been on my mind. Tears again today, even though he's been gone 13 years. He would have been 101 yesterday. He was such a good man....
I thought I had lost this article, but found it today in the Bible that Aunt Lucille gave me when I graduated from high school. It was still in the card that Mom sent it to me in along with her note. There was also a handwritten note (in Daddy's own handwriting) that just said "Hebrews 13, 1 and 2." I looked up the verses:
1 Let brotherly love continue.
2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
So like him to always think of others and to remind me to as well. I miss him.

He could be the prototype for our symbol of burgne Swedish-American. A gentleman with gray spray in his ears, tanned face, a thin mustache hårdtuktad stubble above the eternally burning cigar with an air of paternal about his distinguished världsXXXXperson.
Builder Mr. Sigurd Wicklund 1054 N. Mason Ave Chicago Illinois sitting in front of me, remember and tell about his 65-year life.
-Well, now I have it pretty good. Much better than when I worked home in Skellefteå for two swedish crowns a day!
There it is, why Sigurd Wicklund left the house in Vikfors to create a future for himself over there in the west.
His life story is not particularly remarkable, the poor working boy ????????
over to America, worked and lived wild sometimes but who had the strength to resist the business of America sharks and eventually became a self-employed.
Wicklund has built houses in America, large and small for nearly 40 years. The last decade as "General Contractor" (roughly: builder)
His workmanlike eyes look critically at the Swedes' way of building houses.
-You are building for the small window. The only thing you can see from the second floor of your house is a neighbor husgavel. Large windows around the house so you have a view it should be, you see.
Wicklund says the whole time "you" to me, translates it with the American spoken word "you" literally. He forgot the Swedish title of the Convention.
Thank Wicklund for oblivion.
"But the Swedes build nice houses but the marble in the window frames and staircases. Stuff we use only in large buildings.
So he tells of construction in America, if a different technology, if spiralhus with 30 floors, car parking and 30 floors, apartments on top and great air conditioning in homes, on glass, aluminum and steel in huskropp are, victims of automation, on trade union power and somewhat incredible wages.
He says quietly and thoughtfully. Picks sometimes with a light blue silk tie, chewing on cigars.

Wicklund is himself retired. In our last, he sold the house and went over to the Västerbotten to happen to the family. Of the twelve siblings in the four gone forever.

Ebba Wicklund is a wife, a gotlandstös as Sigurd met in the States.

"Prototype" Wicklund has understood its own house in Chicago and Buick in the garage: "I'm not completely well, you see, so the doctor advised me to leave the car at home. When we came here I went and bought a car. It's so nice to ride in town, like the old woman.

Wicklund turns on its antrasitgrå summer hat and smiled suddenly. He smiles at ungdomsförvillelserna and remember the meeting with the leader gangster Al Capone in a gambling den in Chicago.

Bayswater Brief article:
The Cities of Bayswater and Swan are working on a joint initiative to make local sporting clubs stronger and even more sustainable.
“Blue Ribbon Clubs” is an incentive based accreditation scheme that encourages clubs to adopt policies and practices that will contribute to their long-term success.
The Blue Ribbon Clubs project has been created as part of a sports club development scheme funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation in partnership with the Cities of Bayswater and Swan.
City of Bayswater Mayor Lou Magro says that by participating in the initiative, the 160 clubs within the two cities will be in a better position to plan for the future, access funding and ultimately increase their membership.
“The scheme will assist clubs to better market themselves, secure funding through grant applications and sponsorship requests, and provide a safe and secure environment for members.
“The idea is that Blue Ribbon accreditation will become synonymous with a high level of professionalism that shows the clubs have a strong community focus and plan for their future.”
The programme provides checklists of good practice that address areas such as alcohol management, health promotion, budgeting, planning, as well as good governance and administrative skills.

Apparently someone ignored this advice.
What I realized later was that since this was wartime and rationing was in place, steel to make paperclips wasn't available... so plastic would have been a good idea.
Jordan has been described as America’s “best remaining Arab ally” and Israel’s “last reliable peace partner.” The context of that description was in an article looking forward to the Jordanian parliamentary elections which are to take place in just a few weeks.
One very interesting, but largely unpublicized, aspect of the upcoming elections is that the country’s largest political party has declined to participate. That party is the Islamic Action Front (IAF). The IAF is the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in Iran. The overriding agenda of the Brotherhood is not a secret. It is to completely destroy Israel.
So, why would the Brotherhood, when they are the country’s largest political party, boycott the election process in a country that is a good neighbor of Israel? The mood in the streets of Jordan is like a tinder box that could be set off at anytime. Protests have become almost daily occurrences throughout the country as the people try to gain the ear of the government. That can be a difficult thing to do in a kingdom where royalty lives lavishly and the citizens struggle to feed their families.
Given the trends of the Arab Spring uprisings, Jordan seems like fruit ripe for the picking in this election, especially given its juxtaposition to both Israel and Syria. But there may be some valid reasons for the MB to pursue its current tactic – at least from their perspective.
Keep in mind that Jordan is an Arab kingdom. It is not Muslim. Yet its largest political party is the Muslim Brotherhood’s Islamic Action Front. It should not be difficult to see Jordan as a Muslim takeover target, nor should it be difficult to image the carnage that would take place should Jordan be recreated as an Islamic Caliphate.
All of the activity around Israel is like a giant puzzle where the pieces keep changing shape as one tries to put it together. It is difficult to understand how Israel is able to exist, let alone prosper, in this most volatile of all geographic regions. It is an absolute must that we uphold Israel in prayer, especially for her peace and protection. We should consider praying for the Lord’s hand of protection over those who have blessed Israel with alliances such as Jordan has had with her for many years. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6).

An article that ran in Grandma's paper while we were there. Ramps are a particularly pungent wild onion which, if eaten in large quantities, will actually scent even the eater's flesh in a big way.
