U.S. Army Garrison Fort A.P. Hill is preserving the heritage of the U.S. Army by restoring the two M41A1 Walker Bulldog tanks on exhibit at Fort A.P. Hill's main gate. Both tanks were transported to an off-site facility for painting and restoration. Once the restoration is complete, the tanks will be returned to their original location at the main gate.
The M41A1 was introduced in 1953 and carried a crew of four. The M41 series was developed to provide a light tank (25.6 tons) armed with a 76mm main gun. The "Walker Bulldog" was the main battle tank used during the Korean War. It was given its name after General Walton H. Walker, Commander of the 20th Corp during WWII and the 8th Army in Korea until his death in December 1950.
Photos for this album have been submitted by various Garrison Staff.

The Terracotta Army or the "Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses", is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China.
The figures, dating from 3rd century BC, were discovered in 1974 by some local farmers in Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi province, near the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor.
The figures vary in height, according to their roles, with the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots, horses, officials, acrobats, strongmen and musicians. Current estimates are that in the three pits containing the Terracotta Army there were over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried in the pits.

From the official program;
Veterans Day is an opportunity to publicly commemorate the contributions of living veterans. Armistice Day officially received its name in America in 1926 through a congressional resolution. It became a national holiday 12 years later by similar congressional action.
If W.W.II had been "the war to end all wars" Nov. 11 might still be called Armistice Day. Realizing that peace was equally preserved by veterans of W.W.II and Korea, Congress decided to make the day an occasion to honor all those who have served America. In 1954 President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill proclaiming Nov. 11 as Veterans Day.
A law passed in 1968 changed the national commemoration of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October. It soon became apparent, however, that Nov. 11 was a date of historic significance to many Americans. Therefore, in 1978 Congress returned the observation to its traditional date.
