I finally visited Institut du Monde Arabe, an incredible steel and glass building packed with galleries, libraries and exhibitions of all things Arab. The building was built between 1980 and 1987 having been designed by Jean Nouvel, Pierre Soria and Gilbert Lezénés, with the Architecture Studio. It is still completely stunning.

An issue that was intensively tackled was the conjunction of the landscape and the outer shell. We saw the earth surface as an essential syntactic element. The goal was to design a form able to create exciting spaces. With a ramp visitors can access a bar-cafe with a spectacular view.

Our intention was to create a ground-building that would give the impression
hat it is born from the earth. Elements of the construction are mixed with the natural ground as it unfolds and assumes them. The shell seems to become inflated, torn and to define walkways and spaces.
