This small historical Courtyard House 四合院 with a beautifully ornamented 2-storey building was formerly one of the four draft banks in this busy commercial street outside Beijing’s Gate of Righteous Yang 正陽門. Avoiding the difficulty and risk of carrying large amounts of silver for business through troubled regions or times, draft bank was a type of early Chinese banking system for long-distance remittance and cash withdrawal.
This 2-storey building was designed with thick brick walls facing the street, in which the few windows were all protected by iron shutters. In contrast, the inner façade of the building was decorated by an open porch with auspicious wood-carving decorations. It was said that the first floor of the building was originally used as a treasury, while the ground floor was an opera theatre. However, not much evidences were left to support such claims, since the complex had been used as mass residence since the 1950s or 60s.
In 2015, the architectural complex was thoroughly restored and renovated by ZXD Architects 朱小地建築工作室, as one of the 7 showcase projects of historical Courtyard Houses’ renovation and reuse carried out by internationally known Chinese and foreign architects. This was an urban renovation initiative sponsored by the Dongcheng district government of Beijing. It is now used by D & C Think 民智文化發展戰略研究院, a thinktank focusing on Chinese and international economy and geopolitics.

As I walked towards Umeda Sky Building, I decided to spend a bit of time in this electronic department store. It was probably one of the best experiences ever as they carry so many different brands for you to try.
There are staff inside for you to ask if you have questions about certain electronics. They are quite friendly and not pushy as I encountered in Hong Kong and Canada. I tried different Fujifilm lenses and Sony A7III and A7rIII. A7III certainly impressed me the most with the new eye tracking and auto focusing. It is quick and accurate. I wish I can stay here longer but going to Umeda Sky Building is my top priority.

The Gong
A bell says shallo to new life in Aarhus. The Gong is a tubular bell that is part of the art decorations and it has an arm, which new parents can activate from the maternity ward at the Aarhus University Hospital at the other end of town when a child is born.
The bell has been cast in bronze and is 25 feet long, 2.5 feet wide and weighs close to 3 tons, which makes it the largest of its kind in the world. The work of art is located almost as a centerpiece in Dokk1 hanging above the media ramp, the large inner stairway connecting level 1 and 2.

Ever since Adobe released the new "enhance details" feature, I have been using it quite often. I think that Fujifilm RAF files show quite a noticeable improvements in comparison to previous version. When I pixel peeping, the worm artifact are pretty much gone and images are slightly sharper. I am very happy that Adobe is giving some love to Fujifilm users, especially the ones who don't want to switch to Capture One Pro.
I always wanted to come back to this bridge for photos. This spot can be quite challenge for long exposure shots because the skytrains that are on the bridge can create a lot of shake which can affect the image. So I had to walk down here to minimize the shake from the bridge to get the results I like :)
