The building was the USA’s contribution to the INTERBAU 1957 building exhibition in Berlin. Designed by Hugh Stubbins during the Cold War it was intended to serve as a symbol and beacon of freedom.

A breach of copyright has legal consequences
So, I've recently been away for a few days in Valencia with fellow Flickrite Tom Knowles, a four day quest to do nothing but photography and food. Over the coming days I'll be uploading a few of my favourite images from the trip.
First off was a surprise find - heading from the airport to the hotel we got off the Metro by coincidence at this stop and found a small part of Calatrava's work hidden underground!

Typical architectural detail of Santiago Calatrava, the arches look like a futuristic cathedral. The design of the arches is also characteristic of Calatrava, playing with a harmonious contrast of light and shadow.

I went to Hamburg only for two days in December for professional reason. I knew it would not be a good weather, never is at that time of year. Though, it did not matter... Speicherstadt was waiting :) I took my tripod, cam, filters with me and tried my luck at evenings with some long exposures. I took my time to set for well exposed and composed images. Not an easy task with sodium lamps everywhere but enjoyed it very much despite rain falling and wind blowing.
