The University of San Diego is a Roman Catholic university located approximately two miles north of downtown San Diego, on the north crest of Mission Valley in the community of Linda Vista.

Alcalá Park sits atop the edge of a mesa overlooking Mission Bay and other parts of San Diego, California. The philosophy of USD's founderess and her fellow religious, relied heavily on the belief that studying in beautiful surroundings could improve the educational experience of students.

Thus, to complement the natural beauty of the area, the university's buildings are designed in 16th-century Spanish Renaissance architectural style, paying homage to both San Diego's Catholic heritage and the Universidad de Alcalá in Spain. Many students and faculty choose to live on campus and immerse themselves in this architectural atmosphere and setting. (Wikipedia)

Mostar was named by "the bridge keepers" (natively: mostari) who kept the bridge over river Neretva. During Turkish occupation, The Old Bridge was built and became one of the symbols of Mostar. The bridge was destroyed by Croatian Defence Council units during the Bosnian-Herzegovian War, on November 9, 1993 at 10:15 am.

A monumental project to rebuild the Old Bridge to the original design, and restore surrounding structures and historic neighbourhoods was initiated in 1999 and mostly completed by Spring 2004. In July 2005, UNESCO finally inscribed the Old Bridge and its closest vicinity onto the World Heritage List.

The Peace Bridge in downtown Calgary. I visited this bridge a number of times with my friend Al when I was in Calgary this past week. We walked to it one night - when I took these photos - and biked across in in the daytime.

Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece. Athens dominates the Attica region and is one of the world's oldest cities, as its recorded history spans around 3,400 years. Classical Athens was a powerful city-state. A centre for the arts, learning and philosophy, home of Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum, it is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy, largely due to the impact of its cultural and political achievements during the 5th and 4th centuries BC on the rest of the then known European continent. Today a cosmopolitan metropolis, modern Athens is central to economic, financial, industrial, political and cultural life in Greece. In 2008, Athens was ranked the world's 32nd richest city by purchasing power and the 25th most expensive in a UBS study.
